Some things, no matter how kind, can always be twisted into something sinister.
When everyone is already looking for shady intentions, they will leap at the tiniest indication that everything is not as it seems.
The giveaway was free to enter. More tickets could be earned by bumping the thread, or waving around a banner in a signature. That would draw even more people to it. Wealth would not be a defining characteristic of the giveaway, only activeness. After all, you wouldn't want to give such a coveted possession to someone who would quit within a month.
Who wouldn't want an XXX G1? A Banescale at that. You had kept your free eggs unhatched, waiting until a funny date to finally hatch them.
It was no obsidian, but blood works just fine.
The giveaway was meant to pay back the community that had always been so kind to you. You were a long time player, well known and respected. Secretly, you hoped that the dragon would go to someone a bit less known, but alas, that was not the case. Of course a giveaway like this would attract the more rich users of the community, its not often you find an opportunity like this. The winner was just one of those users. They won fair and square, and with a shrug, you sent the precious dragon over with a note of congratulations. Many users would be disappointed that they hadn't won, that was to be expected, but you weren't worried. Users weren't harassed when they won Roundsey raffles, and if they were staff was quick to step in. You assumed that this would be no different. You went to bed, happy with your good deed.
