Gilde works as a trainer for the young guards-to-be. He's never actually fought in a real fight but he is a strategical prodigy and enjoys teaching so much that no one really bothers to replace him. Ransom doesn't seem to think he's bad at his job, so why should they? If the head guard and elder supports Gilde then he's fine. (Ransom still holds classes regularly, though, just to make sure the younglings are kept on track)
Gilde can be insecure a lot. He feels like his mates are better and more successful than him, too busy for him to keep up with, so he tries to find things to do so he can appear busy as well. He just loves them both so much and fears loosing them. They're aware of his anxiety but not to full extent of it.
Farren acts as a sounding board for the dragon, giving him counsel when he feels stuck or needs someone to vent to. The dryad has tried to encourage him to open up to PolarBear and Tiger, however Gilde refuses to do so.
