ELEANORA

The Unsated

Never-ending search for stability.

Incomplete, rejected and cast out. This child, like many of its brothers and sisters from the tower, was sent away to be disposed of by the alchemist's right hand, only to be dropped at an unsuspecting clan's doorstep as a secretive act of compassion. These children grow up unaware of their heritage, its mark only visible on their bodies. Some grow up to be monstrous and warped due to their unstable nature and magic, while others manage to lead more stable existences and hone their fluid magical nature into something solid, and entirely new.

That is the beginning of the life story of most siblings, but Eleanora was somewhat lucky. The calm she was left with had some of her older cousins, easily recognizing one of their own. Still, each is different - Eleanora was the only one that ate relentlessly, eating her body-weight every day. While a hatchling, others thought of it as cute, cooed her with another cookie, another piece of meat. And yet, as she grew older, it didn't stop. Slightly concerned, her cousins, acting guardians, tried to see if Ele could sustain herself with less food, or other types of food.

Unexpectedly, or perhaps not, Eleanora's power became volatile, expressing itself by changing her shape, disfiguring her. And in the next moment, she was completely normal, only to be turned into liquid or smoke substances in the next. The time or next form were always unknown. How peculiar, this tiny Fae. Shih took a liking to her after the experiment, feeling closeness to the child for the first time.

Under Shih's guidance and feeding regime, Eleanora's potent power stabilized enough for the young Fae to experiment on her own terms. Changing the size of her wing, pushing away the dust, making her food portion bigger... Slowly, but surely, she gained a grasp of control and learned to do things more difficult than simply pushing some leaves away. However, Shih was not a kind and nurturing mentor. The Skydancer, much like Ele, was unsatable, and having discovered and trained Eleanora, she took it upon herself to make Eleanora as strong as she could be, perhaps even strong enough to join Shih in slowly devouring the cosmos.

Eleanora was neither unhappy nor worried over the intensity of her training becoming harder. While she had no desire to eat space dust, she did appreciate knowing how to have multiple mouths to eat faster. She was slowly being inconvenienced by the small frame of Fae body and feeling restricted, she changed her very breed to another, stronger, bulkier. She will not be caught by chains of her own flesh when she was the one meant to eat, sate her endless hunger. She grew, learned and ate, feeling comfortable, but never sated.

It gnawed her from the inside, both the power and the hunger she felt. If she ate enough, her power was easier to control, but it was also weaker. Laverna offered to teach her of the balance, but Eleanora was wise enough not to take her up on that. Still, the balance, or lack of, pushed her outside of her comfort, having to look for different offerings for her stomach. Maybe there was something she could eat to stop this feeling of emptiness, which would not weaken her, remind her of her fragile Fae days...

As it turns out, descendants of the Beast are interesting to Ele, and Jastus was particularly interesting. Him being interesting had a lot to do with his way of courting - bringing large amounts of exotic foods, prepared in various ways. Some of them even cooked by the dragon himself. And while most were nothing to fawn over, the way Jastus used his Light magic to prepare food affected the meals, sating Eleanora for far longer than other food. She knew Jastus was not interested in her as loving couples were, but was interested in her powers, and she couldn't fault him, as she was also using him for her own purposes.

As the courting period neared its end, Jastus and Eleanora agreed to an arrangement suiting them both. They will meet once a month, when Jastus would provide the best of food he had found and prepared, while Eleanora will make sure their children were powerful, trained and worthy of their legacy. Weak ones would be culled early, and the strongest will survive their dance of Light and Shadow.
