Kristalli

Kristalli woke, cold and shivering. She tucked her head deeper into the fold of wings over her neck. The creeping wind sought to find a way in, to share her pocket of warmth and spoil it. “Nno” she whispered to the wind. “Stop!” Kristalli told it. It paused its relentless look for an entrance. She settled back, the groaning of the wind ceasing and it’s shrill cry’s silenced.

The bright midday sun awoke her once more. Sigh. Kristalli Uncovered her wings off her face, just enough to peek outside. “Ma?” She called out quietly. “Ma!” She cried again, louder. After waiting some more, she pulled her small floppy wings off her face and sat up weakly. The landscape around her was bleak and dry, and without the wind whistling and tumbling, it was silent as the inside of an egg.

She didn’t understand. Why was she here. All that Kristalli could remember was her mother; her round, beautiful face. Her smiles and warm wings. She lay there, thinking of her few memories, tears streaking down her face. She was so distracted, Kristalli didn’t even notice soft footsteps behind her.
“Oh, child, what are you doing out here by yourself?” A gentle voice sounded behind her. Kristalli spun around, startled. A tall, graceful skydancer stood behind her, their head tilted, thinking. “Are you lost, dear?”. Kristalli shook her head slowly. The skydancer stepped closer. “Do you have a home?” Kristalli shook her head again. “I-I don’t remember.... my ma” she trailed off. The skydancer watched her curiously. “Why don’t you come with me.” The skydancer told her. Kristalli nodded tentatively.

“Wwhere are you ggonna take me?” She asked. “My clan lives in the big forest.” Skydancer told her. “We love to take in hatchlings or any dragon that wants to live with us. Do you want to come with?”. Kristalli nodded. The tall Skydancer picked her small body up in her arms and rose into the air with ease.

It seemed to Kristalli that she fell asleep somewhere in the air. She woke up snug in a warm bed of damp moss. The air was filled with the scent of mulch and fruits. There was moisture and heat as well. Kristalli was warm like she never was before.
Two other dragonets were snuggled against her side. She realized that the skydancer from before was sitting a little away from here and the other hatchlings. “Do you like it here?” She asked Kristalli.
