Moira's egg was discovered on the outskirts of the Sunbeam Ruins. The fate of her nest is uncertain, but it seems likely that it fell victim to Harpy raids. Since Zhaan the Dreamer had recently hatched a clutch of her own, she adopted Moira and raised her as a sibling to Shado and Slade. The three became closely bonded and loved each other dearly.

However, doing battle with the Nightmare means living a step apart from the rest of the clan, watchful by night and resting by day. As Shado and Slade embraced their Dreamer gifts, they left the daylight world and everyone in it behind. Moira missed their company, but admired their cause. She wished she could share in it as they'd shared in everything else growing up, but lacking their gift, couldn't see how.

Until her own guardian instincts kicked in. While her siblings slept, they were safe from nightmares, but vulnerable to waking threats. Moira realized her calling was to protect them as they protected the rest of the clan. As they had become watchers of the gloaming, Moira became a watcher of the nooning, and she called herself the Custodian.
