Dandy

Under the cold light of the massive moon, only just beginning to wane, a lone egg cracked open. The dragon that tumbled out reflected the glinting of the stars, seeming to pull their light into her small body. Her twinkling was in stark contrast to her surroundings - a sea of black and sticky snow, without a living soul in sight. Too young to understand, she simply followed her instincts, picking up a long white stick from the nearby snow and walking.

Growing up in the Scarred Wasteland was supposed to be an accomplishment, some mightily difficult task only the strongest managed. But the dragoness had not encountered any real difficulty in her months there. Those who attacked her fell with little more than a wave of her claw. It was fun for her, watching arrogant confidence morph into cold terror in moments. In time her power garnered her favor with a pack; they didn't like her, preferring her kept to the edges of the group, holding her at arms length where she could be useful without being as dangerous. One of the fledglings, however, had taken a shine to her. Szagua was the fledglings name and she was not subtle about the ulterior motivation behind her offer of friendship. She was an ambitious, cunning dragon, offering to teach the dragoness what she called "the finer points of society" in exchange for favors.
"You know, all proper ladies have a name. You'll need to get one at some point," Szagua stated matter-of-factly during one of her lessons.
"Then once you've made me a proper lady, I'll pick one out."

As a fledgling the dragoness, who had taken the name Dandy, had believed the darkness nestled inside of her was a product of her upbringing in the Scarred Wasteland. As she grew older she began to realize that likely was not the case; it had been with her long before, in those misty hatchling memories of the Southern Icefield. Curiosity over the source of her abilities took deep root in her mind. When she was of age, she was determined to set off on a journey to discover it. She and Szagua parted ways, both with their own ambitions to fill, though not without a promise to assist the other if at all possible. Dandy traveled across Sornieth, learning little else than that some feared her as a "member of the Shade".

When Szagua sent word for Dandy to join her in Dragonhome to meet with a dragon in possession of the same powers as herself, she was not expecting to remain long. The dragon, Tr'laeg, had explained that they were "Shade-blessed", dragons who the Shade had tried and failed to control, leaving with them a portion of their dark power. Dandy planned to stay for a few weeks, to visit with Szagua and learn what she could from Tr'laeg, and somewhere along the way was roped into acting as a courier for one the clan members. She was well-taught at playing nice so not even when confronting the witch who had been folowing her for days did she let slip a single unkind word. In fact, she sat with him over tea, time and time and time again. Always before her regal demeanor was a front to keep other dragons from throwing her out on the street, but with the witch, with Leicester, it was genuine.
I believe that I am beginning to understand why Szagua would choose to settle down with another...

Dandy is the picture of nobility, projecting a regal air. She hides her true nature behind her aristocratic charms; a nature that is as cold and as cruel as the regions of her birth and childhood. Unlike the other Shade-blessed in the clan Dandy often indulges in her powers for her own gain or amusement. She does, however, posses a few soft spots, namely for her mate and for hatchlings, and she refuses to be the instigator of any aggression. Unlike other Pearlcatchers she has never formed her own pearl; what she carries is a polished crystal. She is instead very protective the "stick" she has carried with her since her birth, now fashioned into a formal cane.

She is mated to the dragon Leicester, a young Skydancer of the Witchborne lineage known for his patient curiosity and reserved presence. Dandy completely enchanted him at their first meeting. As the two grew to know each other better they came to appreciate the stark differences between themselves and how well they complimented each other. Dandy remains mysterious, an awe-inspiring enigma who can capture and quell the curiosity and wanderlust in Leicester in an instant, while Leicester's calm and analytical nature smooths the rougher edges of Dandy's underlying darker nature.
