Introduction Known for both his intellect and his mad schemes of science, Shimmerleaf is constantly jumping headfirst into increasingly crazy projects. He'll often disappear into his workshop for days only to reappear with some fancy new gadget and snatch the supplies to make the next. So far most of these projects have focused on den enhancements and machinery, but Stormcatcher help us when he gets ideas for dragon augments. History Shimmerleaf had a rather... odd upbringing, to say the least. For a lightning-born dragon, especially so. Growing up in the Highland Scrub, he'd once had the misfortune of calling the small town of Junkyard Junction his home. A boring, dead-end of a town whose only defining feature was the desolate garbage dump filled with a rusty sea of scrap metal and lifeless machinery. The place where machines go to die. Against the odds, curiosity of a so-called "taboo" got the better of him. He took a genuine interest in the strange and wonderous world of these long-dead mechanisms. The forbidden world of Mechanics, Engineers, and Inventors. And he wondered to himself, Is there a way to make these machines work again? To bring them back to life? He discovered like-minded individuals, friends, who thought as he did. In a secret workshop they went against the very will of the town: bringing new life to technologies long thought dead, recycling junk and trash into their own creations of metal and glass. It was through these actions he met his future mate, Morrow. For she was never one to bend to the will of others and had gone out of her way to give the "rebels" their secret meeting place. But alas, Shimmerleaf's "rebellious" group of self-taught mechanics was eventually discovered. And outed by his own parents, no less. Though a majority of townsfolk were unusually close-minded in regards to technology, Shimmerleaf's parents were the worst of the lot. They truly believed that creating or using technology was a sign of weakness, cowardice, and laziness; a sin against the very nature of dragonkind. They could not stand the thought of their own son becoming an engineer. So they confronted Shimmerleaf at the no-longer-secret workshop. Tried to convince him they were right, that he should just give up these friendships and creations he'd worked so hard to build, or else. In that moment, Shimmerleaf made the decision he'd tried to avoid for so long. To strike out into the world. To freely choose his career. To create his own destiny. Breaking through the mob with a half-finished mech walker, he abandoned the unfortunate souls he'd once referred to as family. He left behind nearly everything he'd ever known, but left with everything he held dear. Taking Morrow along for the ride, he vowed to start a workshop where he and his friends could create and innovate to their heart's content. Trivia words words words words

Striking out on his own, this ambitious Fae sought a place to bring his electrifying experiments to life. Meeting a like-minded mirror along the way, they settled into an abandoned lair that tunneled deep into the rocks of the Shifting Expanse, providing plenty of potential space for both crew members and machines. There he was able to set up his workshop and tinker as he pleased, while his mate Morrow recruited test subjects lost dragons in need of a home and a job. With the help of his new-found family, the once-abandoned caves have sprung to life with the crackle of electricity and the clanking of gears. Who knows what wild new invention is being created in the workshop...

When Shimmerleaf makes a breakthrough or gets a new idea, he gets so energetic you might think he has some spiral in him. Even though he's a fae and speaks with a monotone, just about anyone can tell he's excited by watching him cackle wildly to himself.


Backstory idea: Shimmerleaf's parents were unscrupulous misanthropes who lived off by themselves outside of a small town in the highlands. Despite living in lightning territory, they strongly disliked technology and banned their kids from using or even going near it. They believed that dragons were better off without machines, and that using technology was a sign of weakness, cowardice, and laziness. But this taboo actually led young Shimmerleaf to be very intrigued by this so-called 'terrible' thing, and he would often sneak out to rummage through the town's junkyard in search of forbidden treasures. He would put anything he found in a secret hideout and create simple machines through trial and error and books. He would also end up meeting friends and mentors through the junkyard trips, who all shared their knowledge with him to help him become the genius he is today.

his parents eventually found out and were extremely displeased, but he was able to escape with Morrow and went on to found VoltiTech with her.
