______ She wasn’t born into a kind world.

Her parents didn’t even have names when they let go of her and the rest of her siblings, left to fend for themselves in the wide world. From young, she knew that life would be a struggle, that she would have to work hard, work until she grew strong, and nobody would be able to leave her behind or toss her away.

She would not be like her parents, still without names in their clan. She would not be like the failed children before her, those who tried and failed to survive and succeed in the wide world, eventually dying and returning to the soil. No, she would make a name for herself, and she would be known.

She had to be powerful, and to do that, she needed to learn.

So she did. She bounced from clan to clan, staying and helping and growing her knowledge, her strength; everything she could learn was learned until her self-set time was up, and she left in search for a different clan to give her more knowledge. She curated her magic, learning the arcane ways to become more powerful, more useful to those that decide to take her in.

______ Throughout all that, she stayed nameless. Unnamed. She promised herself she would only give herself a name when she became powerful enough, but until then, she would be an unnamed Skydancer. It was both a promise to herself, and a goal to reach, to motivate her even when she contemplated on stopping.

Eventually, that day came. Eventually, she became powerful enough to gain her own name.

And so she divinised the stars, and gave herself a name.

Tempus.

Time.

With a bright grin, the newly christened Tempus smiled.

It was perfect.

Ask anyone about the overseer in the clan, and they’ll tell you about how powerful she is, how mysterious she seems; with wings like the paintings of universes she adores, and a calm and collected demeanour even when dealing with the most stressful of situations.

And that works perfectly for Tempus. She’s powerful, in control; the tiny and malnourished Skydancer she had been is no more, although she thinks of those times whenever she needs a morale boost.

Yes, she does enjoy the life she lives now. And if she wills it, nobody will ever remember the little unnamed Skydancer she used to be.
