his parents didn't love him.
it was clear as soon as he hatched, multiple eyes focusing on the world around him. he could see a spark of hope on his mother's face, which quickly left as his siblings eyes began to open. there was no happiness, no love in them, as her claws roughly took their lives away. leaving only him in the empty nest.
he could not understand why he had been spared. he didn't see a difference between him and the siblings he had known for only moments. but his parents told him that he was special. that he was blessed by the stars themselves. yet, he was not the one they had been searching for.
they could use him as a blessing, but he would be nothing more than a stepping stone toward the true blessing they desperately sought. his first clan knew this secret, and they had to as well. the memories of his siblings, of how quickly their lights had been extinguished, haunted him. paired with the dread of his impending death - after all, what good would he be once they discovered this true blessing? all this lead him to wonder - what is the difference between a gift and a curse?
they kept him hidden, away from the eyes of their clan mates. he was a secret that no one could discover; he was theirs, and theirs alone. sometimes he resented the gift he had been given, but in the end, it became his saving grace. with this power, he was able to escape their greedy clutches, leaving behind a clan he never knew. he did not stop running until he found a home who would not use this gift for evil.
