______ Astral was born into a lightning clan, but his parents took him to join a wind clan about three years after his birth. They were servants for the King and Queen of a large flight, and he was only known as a servant’s son. Shortly after they moved to that new clan however, Astral met Maliantor. She was the daughter of the King and Queen, a Princess, but he knew the instant he saw her that he loved her. Never once did Astral think he would ever get to talk to her, but she would always sneak out of the castle when the boys or the servant’s children went to play. So they talked, and slowly they bonded. Although Astral was a somewhat nervous dragon at the time, at least more nervous than now, he still managed to steal Maliantor’s heart. And she stole his right back. When the princess asked if he wanted to run away, he said yes. And for the first time in his life, he was never more sure of a decision.

______ That night was the best night of Astral’s life. Or one of the best. Every day he spent with Maliantor nearby was amazing and seemed like it was the most incredible. But the night that she asked him to run away with her was by far the best. His heart was pounding as he made his way home. The moon shone above his head and the wind whipped around him as he soared back to his home among the dens at the base of the castle. He could barely hear his own thoughts, much less his mother and father who were getting increasingly worried as he did not reply to their calls. Finally he was broken from the daze by his mother, gently shaking his shoulder. Astral’s eyes snapped up and he met his mother’s, realizing he was going to be leaving his family forever. Before he knew it his whole plan had poured from his mouth and his parents stared at him in shock. His mother fainted, and after he and his father laid her in bed, he said softly, “Good luck my son. You will always be with us in heart.” The next day, Astral and Maliantor were off, never to look back again.
