Biography

Harlequin Leviathan

Of the Leviathan class, the Harlequin Leviathan is actually one of mistaken identity. Thought to be their own species, this creature is the male counterpart to the Lucianna Leviathan. The Harlequin Leviathan is much smaller, being similar in size to a juvenile Ghost Leviathan, and is largely passive.

Enhanced night vision and sense of smell, along with impressive camouflage abilities led researchers to believe that this leviathan was a dangerous ambush predator, but they seemingly only use their camouflage as a way to scare other creatures for their own entertainment.

Unlike the Lucianna Leviathan, this Leviathan spends most of their life in mid level waters, swimming close to the sea floor where it feeds on small crustaceans, krill, and seaweed. The Harlequin Leviathan doesn't have to eat nearly as much as other Leviathans, and is much less territorial. They have been commonly observed letting small fish and eels school around them, and take refuge in their large dorsal fins as protection from predators.

Occasionally you will see the Harlequin Leviathan venture to the edges of the inhabitable zone, where Lucianna Leviathans will surface for a short time for mating. Though they are vastly different in size and live very different life styles, the two leviathans do not see each other as threats.

Assessment: Passive. Low threat level if alone, but do not follow if near the edge of the inhabitable zone.
