A BIT OF BACKSTORY: (yes, stolen from my entry from a Writer's Doors Game)
The tiny fae flitted around the remaining weapon- a colossal lance. What luck, she thought grimly, the weapon must have been as heavy as three Emperors. She had no idea where she was and what they would want from her, but it didn't matter. She was going to fight. Steeling her face into an expression of steely determination, she stepped out of the dim weapons room to face her attacker.
She would have to fight... with nothing.
Dust and gritty sand curled around her small black claws, the roaring of the beastclans pounding in her ears. A longneck gladiator faced her. It must have been three times her size and equally as menacing- in its black eyes, she could see it would spare her nothing. The sun beat down on her obsidian-black scales. Her opponent smirked spitefully at her as the crowd booed, nearly laughing out loud at her petite size and lack of a weapon. They thought the fae was going to fail.
They were wrong.
Nyx glanced up at the harsh blue sky. The arena was blanketed by an intricate wire mesh that prevented dragons from flying off, but they had underestimated the courage of their entertainment. She leapt into the air, tiny wingbeats beating upwards, even though she barely stirred the blood-stained sand. Higher and higher she flew until she was just hovering under the thick mesh. The beastclan gladiator smirked again, playing with time as it began to circle her.
She made a show of seeming scared, letting it swipe viciously at her dangling claws. But Nyx dipped in and out of its strikes with ease. The enemy snarled at her as it continued to miss, the swing of its heavy metal sword becoming quicker and more accurate. The roaring crowd was egging the gladiator on, screaming foul things to bolster the beastclan warrior, but it only seemed to spur her on. She danced again and again and again around the ever-maddening gladiator.
Suddenly, out of a fit of unbridled rage, the gladiator swung its immense sword at her as high as it could get. She watched the sword's path as it neared the mesh. Nyx ducked without a second thought and shut her bright blue eyes. This was it.
Rallying her element, the power of thunder, she struck.
Lightning astonishingly bright exploded out of Nyx's claws, hitting the mesh and travelling swiftly through the thick metal sword until it reached the gladiator's fur through its conductive metal armour. The longneck enemy fell with a heavy thump onto the ground, convulsing wildly and churning up the bloody sand. Heavy grey clouds suddenly gathered overhead as if to watch.
She alighted on his twitching body, revelling in the utter silence of the crowd. Then, locking eyes with the reigning pearlcatcher and spreading her vivid cyan wings wide, the fae plunged the gladiator's own still-crackling sword into the gladiator's heart.
Nyx had killed him.
... but what happens next?
