An outcast from the start, Skyla's life had always been followed by chaos and the shadow of her magic. It was uncontrollable, the magic that flowed through her, both for her and others. Because of this, Skyla spent the majority of her early life scared and scarred, afraid to join any clan for fear of hurting someone.

This all changed when she stumbled into Clan Stellae, and more specifically, Kaph. The skydancer quickly noticed Skyla's distress at having come too close to others, and decided to stay and help the young nocturne rather than abandoning her to deal with her powers alone. Kaph's help has been effective at limiting the incidents Skyla has with her magic, but she still keeps her distance from others just in case.

“Miss Skyla!” A loud voice hollered. The young Nocturne opened her eyes tiredly, sitting up in her small cot, letting a large yawn escape from her mouth. It was sometime in the morning, and her cave was filled with a cozy warm light that made her scales tingle.
“ Miss Skyla!” The annoying voice repeated. Skyla rubbed her eyes with a claw, and turned towards the mouth of the small cave that she called home. A dragon was standing in the doorway, its hands cupped around its mouth so as to project its voice even further. Long wings protruded from its back, stretching high into the sky, showing shimmering jewels that seemed to be attached to them.
“Miss Sky-”
“I’M HERE!” Skyla bellowed, standing up annoyedly. The dragon stopped calling her name. Skyla sighed, and stood up, walking over to the opposite side of her small cave, where the mirror was. She took a few minutes to get dressed and wipe the dirt off of her scales, before walking outside to meet the dragon.

She stepped outside, the broad sunlight searing her eyes, creating black spots across her vision. Cautiously, she approached a blob that looked sort of dragon-ish.
“How can I help you?” She asked, making the annoyance in her voice just slightly clear, but subtle enough so that no one would notice unless they were searching for it.
She noticed that the dragon was a Guardian, large and proud, standing on two legs with his tail swishing behind him like a cat. He had a pair of glittering green eyes set into his face, and bright blue scales with black obsidian jewels were laced. His jaw was set in a determined sort-of way, as if he was trying to accomplish something without actually doing anything. His expression was something between disappointment and intrigue as he stared at her, no doubt studying her the way she had him.
The Guardian frowned, his eyes drifting down to the jewels lining her arms.
“I presume that you are Skyla?” He inquired. Skyla nodded
“I am here from the mages college in Hollowknight.” He smiled coldly. Skyla felt her eyes widen slightly in surprise.

“The… the mages college?” She asked, a slight tremble in her voice. She had had several run ins with them before, but it had always been her who had gone to them, not the other way around. And, she remembered clearly, they had never been friendly. In fact, quite often, they had been the opposite. Skyla shuddered as a few unpleasant memories emerged in her mind. The Guardian smirked at her, sending small tendrils of fear racing up her spine.
“Yes.” He said, placing his clawed hands behind his back, as if trying to look professional. Skyla took a small step back, a coldness spreading over her scales like a wintery blanket. The Guardian wasn’t there for something good. She could sense it with every fiber of her being. She was in trouble, big trouble. Possibly trouble that could get her kicked out of the clan, or worse, exalted.

“I bet you’re wondering why I’m here.” The Guardian sighed, his smile fading. Skyla nodded, trying not to let the fear show in her eyes.
“I will try to be as clear as possible about this.” He told her. He sighed, long and heavy, and then raised his eyes to meet her.
“The college has taken an interest in you.” He announced. Skyla narrowed her eyes.
“That really wasn’t clear at all.” She replied solemnly, trying to keep her guard up. The Guardian smirked.
“Well then, let me restate. The college has taken an interest in your very being, which seems to be filled to the brim with magic. You can use it without even trying, and often, you use it when you are trying not to use it.” He told her. Skyla frowned, taking another cautious step backwards.
“In other words, you want to poke and prod me like a lab rat.”
The Guardian frowned, obviously annoyed at her lack of willingness.

“Of course not! What do you think of us as? Monsters?” He asked. Skyla bit her lip, holding back her most honest response. In truth, she knew that that was exactly what they were. Monsters. Experimenting on harmless animals and familiars just for their results. It was horrible. Skyla felt anger begin to blossom in her stomach. She could control the anger, twist it, bend it, feed it into a spell and let her power free on the Guardian. But she didn’t. Not yet. Instead, she let her anger simmer down until it was replaced by fear. Fear of the future.

“Then why do you want me?” She asked quietly. The Guardian regarded her with his eyes for a moment before sighing.
“You could be the most powerful mage in all of Sornieth. And yet, you resist. Why?” He questioned. Skyla looked away. She didn’t have to explain herself to one of those horrible mages. She moved her hand to her arm, where one of her enchanted gemstones lay against her scales. Slowly, she pulled it off. Removing one should be enough. She thought to herself. She watched as fear blossomed in the Guardians eyes. And then, something struck her. Maybe it was the fear, or maybe it was pity, or maybe it was guilt or regret for what she was about to do. Regardless, she stumbled a bit backwards, quickly putting the gem back around her wrist.

She looked around, fear rising as a few pebbles and rocks flew into the air around her. One of them even blipped away in a small puff of smoke, making the Guardian jump. Quickly, Skyla scrambled to the edge of the cliff and jumped, hurtling towards the ground. Right before she hit it, however, she opened her large wings, taking to the skies, flying into the center of the lair where she knew that Kaph would be. Spotting the elegant skydancer, she dived to the ground, landing lightly on her back claws.

“Kaph.” She whispered, grabbing the skydancer by the shoulders. Kaph looked at her with intrigue, seeing the worry clear on her face.
“What is it Skyla?” She asked concernedly. Skyla looked up in the sky, expecting to see the large guardian flapping toward her.
“They found me. And they want me. The Mages College in Hollowknight. They sent a Guardian to see and retrieve me.” She stammered, fear spilling out of her mouth in the form of draconic. Kaph took her hand and glared at her cave.
“Where?” She snarled. Skyla needed not say anything else. They flew back to the cave where the Guardian was waiting. Kaph strode over to him and glared openly into his face.
“Leave Skyla alone. She doesn’t want anything to do with the college. None of us do.” She said calmly, poison hiding in every word. The Guardian sighed, and casted a quick glance at Skyla.

“I’m sorry.” He breathed. And then, he was gone. Skyla ran to Kaph, wrapping her in an embrace.
“Thank you.” She breathed. Kaph smiled.
“It’s fine now, Skyla. If they ever give you any trouble again, which I imagine they will, just contact me. We won’t let them take you. I promise.”
