--Tesla and the Birth of Clan Vervain--

Clan Vervain’s second in command, a decorated general known for her steely resolve and ruthless efficiency in battle, began her life on the run in order to keep it. Born on the cusp of a coup that decimated a clan within the heart of the Lightning Farm’s volatile landscape, Tesla was sent far from the turmoil with a traveling emissary and only what food she could carry tied to her small back in order to give her a chance to survive.

Unfortunately, she lost her temporary savior in a border dispute, left to make a wandering trek through the Water Flight’s territory on her own. Months of survival and listless uncertainty separating her from where she’d been and where she was, she found herself hunting in the muck of the Driftwood Drag and came across the still struggling leader of Clan Vervain in its earliest days. Ophan was new to leadership with only a motley handful of dragons under his care, brought together by circumstance more than any strong faith in his ability to lead. Regardless, he offered the wildclaw hatchling what no one else had yet, a chance to prove herself worthy of her own survival.

Not willing to eke out an existence on the sidelines of his guidance, Tesla repeatedly put herself in the center of clan decision making as she grew. Together, she and Ophan expanded the ranks of the clan and began the first vestiges of its military defense. As the clan grew, so did Tesla’s responsibilities and influence, and by the end of her first few years within the clan she was an irreplaceable fixture at its center, Ophan’s right hand, wielding the clan’s first line of defense. To this day she remains his closest confidant and friend.

--Lightning in the Shadows--

Upon first meeting Tesla, she gives the impression of being harsh and rather severe in her mannerisms and general opinion of those around her. Upon second, third, and fourth meetings, most clan members have reported this to remain the case. Shaped by a driving need to survive and fight to prove herself, she believes strongly in equipping those under her care with the ability to do the same for themselves, and many young dragons have bemoaned her harsh training regimes.

Beneath her steely exterior, however, is a seemingly endless well of protective intent. She’s proven time and again to be willing to lay down her life for the sake of the clan, and that has earned her respect despite her sometimes abrasive nature. Though quiet and reserved in most interactions with other dragons, she’s fierce on the battle or training field, leaving no doubt that she’s earned her titles time and again.

Throughout the growth of the clan, most of the clan expected Tesla to become the clan’s matriarch when it was clear that her relationship with Ophan was romantic in nature. To the surprise of some, Tesla took a then newcomer, Reign, as her mate and suggested Ophan name the skydancer Corrinne as clan matriarch. Both Reign and Corrinne seem content with this arrangement, and when asked (though few dare), Tesla points out that she’s hardly maternal enough to be a matriarch, even in name, in what comes dangerously close to humor.

There’s also a rumor that somewhere in her otherwise sparsely collected belongings, she keeps a small stuffed effigy of the Shadowbinder that Ophan gifted to her as a hatchling when she first made the decision to remain in the shadows, but she’s even less likely to confirm that as it would suggest it’s possible she has a soft side at all.
