Children of the weaponsmith and the seer either inherit one mother’s love for the heat of the forge or the other’s unfortunate ability to see the possibilities the future holds.

The former’s talents are useful, at least. Sorineth is always wanting for good weaponsmiths and who would turn down an apprenticeship from one of the best this side of the Wasteland?
On the other hand, well.

The world could do with fewer seers, and the threads of fate can only run so far.

Extan, thank all the gods, never inherits the Sight that curses his siblings and mother. He doesn't take much interest in his other mother's trade as a blacksmith, either.

Against all odds, his childhood is actually... good. Normal, even. He grows up safe and happy, comforting his younger brother when he wakes up terrified of the future and teaching his older sister to be nice to them both.

That's his calling-- and his Charge, even as he does not realise it.

Giving comfort to those around him, helping where he can. There is a lot of strength in those claws of his, but gentleness is not a prerequisite to being kind. For as long as the Earthshaker allows it, he will serve those around him out of nothing but the goodness of his heart.

Extan has never needed to See his future. He knows his place, and it is right here.
