Born on a day out of time, between seasons, she waits for paradox

gedJUDY.png

The leaves are sprouting on the trees still surrounded by snow, the very cusp of early spring. The birds are nesting, their eggs a promise of new life to come. Patience is waiting.

Born between seasons, on a day that goes uncounted most years, Patience spends much of her time waiting. She doesn't mingle with others often, existing in a somewhat liminal state that leaves her disconnected from her fellows. The leaves and roots live at a different pace, and often theirs intersects with hers, and so she lives in contemplative seclusion.

Her tears may be frozen, but the spring blooms that herald the Greenskeeper Gathering still bring joy to her heart. The surge of life and green energy that comes with the Gathering gives her just the boost she needs to be able to manifest more fully, and move among her own kind with greater freedom. She greets the scavenger hunters, helps hatchlings find daisies to weave into crowns, and watches the petals drift from the trees.

The next time she surfaces will be on the cusp of winter, when all Sornieth gathers to celebrate with the Decorating of the Behemoth. Light and colour and laughter will stir her soul again, and she will hang a bauble of her own with all the rest.

Promise the Gem Guardian would say that they chose Patience, by dint of having found her wandering near the lair towards the close of a past Gathering.

The guardian serves as a minder of sorts for the vague pearlcatcher, carrying messages to and from the rest of the lair as well as performing wellness checks. It requires a being somewhat more elementally connected than the usual creatures of Sornieth to pop in and out of that inbetween realm Patience inhabits.

The clan's members are only peripherally aware of the pearlcatcher's existence. She enjoys a somewhat mythical status, being only seen on rare occasions.

Elemental Manifestation

Primal eyes are an indicator of exposure to the undiluted power of the elements. Its causes and effects are different for each dragon. Some looked too long upon their god's face, others were blessed in the egg. Long devotion and study can cause it to manifest later in life, and sometimes its an individual's raw power bursting forth. It is a symptom that can have multiple causes.

Born on a day that simply doesn't exist most years, Patience's unique eyes are thought to be a result of that isolation. An aether once spoke of the coldness of the empty reaches beyond the sky, and suggested that the liminal spaces she moves in may share that chill. Some think her veins are filled with icewater, and that's why she seems to move so slowly. Uncertain if it was a blessing or a curse, her parents regarded her with concern and confusion.

Most days her vision is clouded, frosted around the edges like a poorly glazed window. The quickening of life that occurs in the green parts of Sornieth helps.
