Biography
______T H E - S E C O N D
Be it small or major, it was obvious Carnations was a bad omen. An unfortunate burden, but he did not mind such a role once he found his peace with it. The magic told him when he was needed and he would emerge from the depths, overseeing what was foretold. No matter the size of whatever is to occur, Carnations will keep an eye on it and ensure things go according to the plan of the Fates. |

But it was difficult. Watching Gladioli step into the light, watching her actually connect to living beings, whilst being too afraid to leave the shadows himself.
Her purpose was a noble one, easily understandable, but his was not. Though he spent his days tracking down rogue souls in need of passing before the Fates forced his claw, it was aimless, and the Graveyard had grand plans for him. The call brought him deep into the territory of the mortals, his eyes seeking out who he was there for automatically, and the mortals laid their eyes upon him that day. They were reluctant, and wary, but left him be.
It was a horrible moment when he watched the hatchling tumble over the edge of the cliffs and into the seas. The young one was too young to be skilled in flight, the desperate attempts doing nothing, and she crashed against the rocks and disappeared.
By the time they managed to retrieve her, she was gone, and a small patch of flowers grew at the very edge of the cliff.
Carnations sent her soul off with a mournful song, as much for himself as everyone else, and could do nothing as the wariness turned to anger and hatred. The mortals saw him as a curse, then, and Carnations fled back into his shadows immediately.
And he knew his purpose, then, as did all those in Valhall. All those in the Waking Plane, perhaps, for Carnations was the first of his type. When he disappeared back into the shadows, he did not see how the mortals' distrust and fear morphed into something more—an understanding he himself did not possess. They saw something in his sombre silence he himself could not. Perhaps not all of them, it was true, but there were wise dragons among them that saw beyond the horrified sorrow of what had happened.
He may bring bad fortune, one of their leaders declared, but we are glad to know the unfortunate ones will never have to linger in pain now. Those that perish on our soil will never go alone.
Carnations heard their words later, the first time a mortal truly approached him, and he found understanding in the sentiment. For wasn't it true? When he felt the call, and oversaw the event to be, the deceased ones would never have to wander the lands in the fog of confusion. They would be spared the pain of being forgotten, of watching their loved ones go through a life without them, and would be able to cross over in an instant.
And that was a purpose he could work with. A purpose he may be proud of, even, though the reluctance in him was wary to say as much.
Biting Cold
» Carnations use his talents mostly to create—statuettes that never melt, beautiful patterns of frost and icicles on the land, or useful household items. |
True Loyalty
» Mostly, Carnations' interactions are the strongest with the souls of those directly related to the events he will predict, or have predicted. |
