Heartbleed, daughter of Lady Marre and a father she never met, was an obedient child; some might say that she sucked up to her mother in an attempt to gain her favor, however, and it wasn't entirely false. The reasoning for her good attitude was that her brother, Kuur, is the heir of Clan Valebane. This made Heartbleed quite jealous. Kuur was a distant dragon. He never really cared about leading the clan. This, unknown to Heartbleed, was the reason Lady Marre chose him. The Matriarch saw apathy as a good trait for a leader. It prevented a leader from getting too attached to his or her subjects.

Lady Marre was saving her son from the pain of loss.

Heartbleed's jealousy grew. She and Kuur took a band of exaltees and set out for the Wyrmwound. They must deliver the subjects to the Broodmother, the Plaguebringer.

It was a perfect plan.

Just dunk Kuur under the vile slime and be done with him.

It backfired.

Kuur was stronger than his sister. He fought back, unintentionally pushing Heartbleed into the Wyrmwound. Kuur was a good brother, though. Despite the fact that his sister had attempted to kill him, he pulled her out and carried her home. She wasn't the same. Her body was mutated into the shape of a Mirror dragon and her skin had been reduced to green slime.

Lady Marre was furious. Kuur attempted to explain that Heartbleed tried to kill him and it was all an accident, but the Matriarch would have none of it. She banished both of them to the outskirts of the territory.

Heartbleed, once a healthy, proud, intelligent dragon, became a vacant beast, unable to speak and incapable of higher thought.

At least she's happy with herself.
