>Mad Scientist
| Previously an arcane dragon and one of Styx's colleagues, Cocytus has always been a dragon with no qualms about testing unstable and potentially dangerous theories and concoctions on himself. He got it in his mind whilst studying in the Starwood Strand that he should be studying the effects of exposure to the Wyrmwound on a dragon's body, and despite being discouraged by most of his colleagues, he was determined. Taking his notes and his supplies and hitting the road, he traveled deep into the Scarred Wasteland. A dangerous trip, he survived mostly because of the kindness of the plague clans he'd met along the way; Many of which discouraged his endeavor as well. It's madness, they told him. He's only going to find himself a slow, painful demise. He was not deterred. |
| Eventually, he made it to the inner section of the Rotrock Rim, and set up camp. He began by studying the local clans, finding them all to be relitively... normal. It was disappointing, to him. Clearly, it wasn't enough. Simply living near the Plaguebringer's cauldron had no effect on these dragons. He needed something more direct. He got closer. The clans began to thin out. They stopped warning him. They knew he made his choice. They were grim, they would no longer speak with him. He was ok with this. He was pursuing knowledge. None dared this close, not that he knew of. The clans told him it was because few who came this close lived to tell the tale. He would. He needed to know. He reached the edge. He jumped in. |
| The changes were instant, painful, and extreme. He pulled himself out of the pit as quick as he could. The concentrated plague magic warped his body, making his blood caustic and his eyes twisted. As he lay on the ground in front of the Wyrmwound, the dragons of a traveling plague clan found him, and took him in as he healed. He explained little of what had happened to him to them, though, it did not take much for them to figure out what he'd done, given the circumstances. It was clear soon to him as well that they knew, and he feared their judgment for it. He knew plague clans could be harsh. Not wanting to wait to find out, he left as soon as he felt able to, and began to seek out his previous academic colleges. |
| He found his old friend Styx, settled in Dragonhome, and decided to stay as well, as Styx was the only dragon he knew who encouraged his studies- for better or for worse. He spent much of his time initially fashioning a weapon for himself, with Stratus' reluctant help, that would connect to his tail and use his own warped blood to attack with. Alongside this, he and Styx have been extensively testing the other effects the Wyrmwound might have had upon his body, along with the new contents of his blood. They have found little, though his affliction has rendered him unable to wield arcane magic as he had been able to previously, and has replaced it with a weak affinity to plague magic instead. |
