There's a tale that the dragons of Thonis might tell travellers on their islands to warn them: Somewhere in the Singing Waters, not too far from the Thonis Atoll, lives a dragon in the dark zone of the ocean. A Guardian, his fin-like wings transparent and his scales shining like stars in the inky darkness. Sometimes he leaves his deepsea lair and travels to shallower waters.

He's searching.

His magic is strong and he will offer his services to wayward travellers: Those who are not of Water or Wind; the ones who have no means of breathing underwater. He will encase them in air and lead them to his cave, welcome them, feast them and offer them rest. Even those who decline are already lost. They have no way of returning to the surface without help, and the Guardian won't grant it to them.

"You will stay," he will say. "You are my Charge from now on." That's what the dragons who have heard the tale suspect, anyway. They haven't found anyone who could tell them. Only one dragon ever managed to flee, and that only because he declined the sinister Guardian's services from the beginning and fled to the surface with the help of another Water dragon who coincidentally came along.

The dragons of Thonis will warn their visitors to never follow the stars underwater. The Guardian from the depths will welcome you and treasure you, but you may never leave.
