Sam suffers from paralysis in her back legs, but this has not deterred her from finding a worthy purpose in the clan. Despite being from the Lightning flight, she has a certain touch for working with plant life and has established a plant sanctuary for the many herbivorous dragons in the clan. There she spends most of her time laying among her plants while her familiar, Mulch the Greatshell, slides about checking the condition of the flora.

Sam claims her electric powers have given her the ability to charge the infertile soil of the Scarred Wasteland with energy, but she has yet to find a way to prove that a charge from a Lightning dragon is somehow enough to make the Scarred Wasteland's soil usable.
Sam is kindly, although mostly inactive and stoic. She tends to only speak when spoken to in the heart of her garden, and has an air of kindness about her that some dragons suspect is a façade. Regardless, her immense gift with plant life makes her too valuable of a clan member to question on her motives. As Marshal argues, she is as much of a castout as the rest of them and deserves her place and her peace.
