Crocodile-headed Bontu is the God of Ambition. She was stolen from her world to become the first of the Five, the lesser Sunchaser gods. She teaches that no one is born strong: they must become it, whether through training, cunning, or other means. Gone are the days where those encouraged means involved the deaths of friends and family, the culling of the so-called weak- Gone, but not forgotten. After all... Sacrifices still must be made for ambition, and for the good of the Sunchasers. Even if these days she knows there are limits. To her, pride is a virtue, even as becoming too arrogant is still to fail. But even now, having cheated death, she believes herself to be above arrogance: she is the first of Solar's Five, and she knows she alone is worthy enough for the position. 
While she and her sister Oketra should have died at the hands of Nicol Bolas, betraying her siblings in the fruitless pursuit of survival, this version of Bontu turned away from her path. She still betrayed her kind, and her siblings still died for it- But she and Oketra have come to a somewhat uneasy peace with this and each other all the same. They both came under Solar's light, and are doing the best they can to recover. Bontu, as first of the Five, leads the Bontu's Teeth and Ambition's Chosen divisions. While her own must work together - and she will swiftly reprimand those who sabotage the whole - she values ambition in the ranks. As such, the divisions seek to emulate their cunning, sometimes underhanded god; there are often intense competitions between companies, each seeking to prove themselves and their skill in the eyes of Bontu. The most daring will spar with the god herself. Win or lose, those who do come away with bruises, but also learning. Bontu, for all her abrasiveness and her pride, is still a teacher. |
