CLAN ELSEWHERE

The original clan from which the Abandoned rose, Clan Elsewhere was once a sprawling gathering of nomads who haunted the Scarred Wasteland alongside the clan of Sleeth. When resources became scarce and their patriarch ached for home, they began a long trek northward to find a more permanent residence. It seems as though they are the core of everything the Abandoned does, having more say and power than any of the hangers-on (with the exception of The Council, who technically owns their lair). Very few flaunt it, but those who can are hardly challenged.

According to Vesuvius, she was born on the hottest day of the hottest month at the base of the Great Furnace, the daughter of an assassin of great renown and a mother who now fights for the gods. Her passion for metalworking came from her surroundings as, being a poor strategist, she found her strength in arming her family and clan. It’s a bit of a thankless job in terms of earning the respect of those around her, but it’s fulfilling in the fact that it gives her a sense of purpose and brings her earnest joy; every new blade she crafts or pauldron she smiths just proves to her that she is a capable and talented dragon, and sometimes that’s all a girl really needs to be happy.

She hopes to one day craft something worthy of the Flamecaller herself, perhaps even at the goddess’ side within the Furnace itself. For now, however, she contents herself on being a part-time blacksmith and a full-time guard, relegating such lofty goals to her daydreams.

Vesuvius ended up in Clan Elsewhere by pure chance, back when her father decided that he had had enough of the Furnace’s glow and set his sights toward the Scarred Wasteland. Not long after leaving the Ashfall Wastes, Vesuvius felt her long-absent instincts kick in and separated from her clan at the whim of the Search, hoping to find her Charge somewhere in the boneyards and tangles of rotten briars. None were as relieved as she when she found Hex, immediately feeling the pull strengthen between them.

She’s wandered by Clan Elsewhere ever since.

Unlike Hex, Vesuvius is a friendly enough sort, willing to give anyone a chance if they’ll offer her the same kindness. She can come off as intimidating due to her ego, as she feels herself far and beyond most other dragons in her line of work and takes great pride in her ancestry, but is essentially harmless and not prone to violence. Most of her day is spent fashioning ores and bones into trinkets, armor, and weapons for the whole of the Abandoned, and the move to Dragonhome suits her quite nicely: there’s a lot of deposits for her to work with.

Being as dedicated to her heritage as she is, the fact that she has not seen her father since finding Hex is something of a hard morsel for her to swallow. She wonders about him frequently, and occasionally makes hints that she would like to perhaps seek him out just to see how he’s faring. Hex, being mystically inclined, knows the harsh truth of the matter and struggles to keep her from wandering south.
