Biography

Bright, friendly, and cute as a button, Alderamin is a charming little dragon who seems to steal the hearts of everyone who sees him...but there's more than meets the eye. In truth, Alderamin is one of the oldest dragons in the clan, and although he claims not to know what keeps him young, he's fully aware that he is the one who caused it.

Millennia ago, in an age long forgotten, Alderamin was a masterful mage, and one of the first to pioneer the subject of alchemy. Although originally well known and well revered for his intellect, Alderamin began to lose his stellar public image when his experiments turned to the more forbidden side of the elemental arts. He was cast out of the Ice Flight after he was caught attempting to break into the Fortress of Ends in an attempt to capture, study, and harness a piece of the Shade. He would have been imprisoned by the Icewarden if it were not for his fame as a magic user. He was instead invited to travel to the domain of the Lightweaver, to study the vast collection of scrolls in the Light Flight's possession. This was when he discovered his true fascination: Imperials.

When the dark secret of the breed was brought to his attention (at the time, it was kept carefully concealed) he became obsessed with it, consumed by wonder at the strange magic that had caught even the Lightweaver off guard. His public image continued to degrade as he was caught stealing from the Light Flight's archives, stalking Imperials, and gradually becoming more deranged and obsessive. Finally, his bad reputation turned criminal when he was caught stealing the bodies of dead Imperials to experiment on their corpses and attempt to build an Emperor of his own. There were even rumors (although they were never confirmed) that he killed them himself.

To escape execution, Alderamin used his formidable magic skill and the strange genetic secrets he had gathered from his studies of the Imps to turn himself back into a child. He then hid out in the darkest reaches of the Tangled Wood, intending to return when the world had forgotten him, and his memory had faded in the minds of the Gods.

Unfortunately, when it was time to emerge, due to the fact that he'd fundamentally altered his DNA to facilitate his transformation, Alderamin could not turn himself back into an adult. While extremely frustrated by this at first, he eventually discovered a bright side: it was a lot easier to manipulate someone when they believe you have the mind of a child. It didn't certainly didn't hurt to be so ding-dang cute!

Moving from caretaker to caretaker, Alderamin was eventually able continue his studies of Imperials from afar, after finding a very fascinating situation to watch over: Rowan's original clan. Watching the rouge Imps continue his work, and succeed in creating Emperors was a dream come true for Alderamin. When the clan was scattered, he was enraged...until he saw the chance to continue his studies in a more unconventional way. He began to follow Rowan as he journeyed around the world in order to study the effects of prolonged exposure to the dark magic that made an Emperor. When he saw his chance, introduced himself to Rowan as a small, lost hatchling, afflicted by some unknown malady that kept him young forever. Rowan took to him immediately, and his cuddly alter-ego soon became the only person Rowan trusted or cared about. Alderamin subtly guided Rowan to settle in Quiet Star, due to their expansive library and the strong passive magic of the Arcanist's domain, and quickly stole the Clan's heart by being the charming little child that they all thought he was.
Job: Officially? None. Everyone thinks he has the mind and capabilities of a child. Unofficially, Alderamin uses his powers to ward off major magic threats. This is less out of love for his clan, and more out of a desire to not be disturbed or revealed.
Alignment: Ice...but he gets upset if anyone points that out. He is incredibly angry at the Icewarden for casting him out as he believes that his attempts to experiment on the shade would have advanced the fields of science and magic. In his mind, he has no elemental affiliation (although, if pressed, he would begrudgingly admit that as far as deities go, the Arcanist is his favorite).
Bonds: He doesn't really care about anyone except himself. He sees Rowan more as a bodyguard/test subject than a caretaker, and any family he had is long dead now. Although fond of his Psywurm (a gift from Rowan), his affection for it is more novel than anything. He despises Ghost, as she can see right through his guise, and keeps trying to warn people. Thankfully, her riddles and warnings are so cryptic that no one's caught on...at least not yet.
