DRAUGR #58037127 - Keeper of the Woods - Before you lies a small dragon - or what you, at least, believe to be a dragon, though that fact may be debatable upon closer inspection, but don't let their size fool you. For all their miniscule stature, they hold an air of enigma and ominous dignity to their being, and you feel as though you should be wary. They catch you looking in their direction, however, and tilt their head to the side, grinning unnervingly as they begin to approach you. At first, you are not sure whether you should flee, but you hold your ground, not wishing to appear weak in front of this odd entity. "Greetings, mortal. You haven't yet removed yourself from these grounds, so I take it you have an interest in the woods?" You stammer out confusion at what they could possibly mean, and they smile. "Oh, but of course you might be baffled. After all," the gaoler pauses, before turning to look behind them. You peer overtop of them to try and make out what has caught their attention. With no warning, the eerie silence gives way to reality ripping itself apart at its very seams, as though the fabric of this universe is bending to their will. Within this tear you see another dimension, a forest exactly as they had previously insinuated, though all of the trees are barren and dead, their leaves fallen to the ground. It seems cold and wet and unpleasant here, and that's when the gaoler continues, "...it's hardly as if you're welcome without my say-so." Craning their head back around to face you, their soulless eyes pierce your own. "I am the keeper of these dead woods. In life, I was a selfish ruler, who cared not for their subjects, only for my own wealth and desires. In the afterlife, I have been tasked with eternally maintaining this realm to atone for my crimes, as it is an... odd gateway of sorts. Yes, let's call it that, if you will." "Here you will find strange beings - whether they are helpful spirits or malicious demons, all things a part of Sornieth and those alien to it, I cannot say for sure. I only know that they appear within these woods, and it is my... job to make sure they arrive in the mortal dimension in their rightful place. Perhaps you, my friend, are their destination. Care to take a look, and dare to enter these cursed lands?" |
