What else were you? You were properly prepared, a studious shadow, a rloyal leftover. And you were pretty content with that, if not just a tiny bit envious. Wasn't it only natural to be so close to such a prestigious title and yearn for it? But, none of this was supposed to happen. Your duty as a failsafe...you were never supposed to fulfill that duty. You were just supposed to be an absurd afterthought, was never supposed to ~~did you ever deserve to...?~~ have a crown placed upon your skull.

And it's strange, you think, because no one has ever really been directly unkind to you. You are ~~were one of~~ the sweet, beloved jewels of the land, and lead a luxurious life. It's just that every crinkled eye ever aimed at you, every wistful expression, and every whispered pity felt like thorny brambles threatening to choke, threatening to behead. Strange, because the reason for your existence's pitifulness was the only one that treated you as something more than a shadow.

And now, every morning, you see the pearlescent twist of cold metal that points towards the sky. You know it is mocking how beneath it you are. How it wishes it could come to life and stab into your temples upon which it is so uncomfortably cushioned. ~~It should have been hers.~~

There is nothing but work these days. You are aware of the luxury you are afforded, but your limbs fill with more and more lead with every passing day. Within your breast, a hollow heart has no choice but to thud, thud, thud. Half of it is gone, never to return, long decomposed. You want to turn back time. You want to say that you hate. You want to ask why. Some days, all you want to do is to scream. But you know in your heart...you only truly want to tell her that she was your world, how you wish you told her you loved her more. But, these thoughts are not befitting of a leader! Come now, your majesty. There are important matters to attend to...

You are the false empress. You are the younger, remaining twin. And you miss her so, so much.
