» Biography

One of the last surviving members of his species, Rath’gar represents the finality of the wyverns. Part of the first, and only, clutch to have hatched in centuries, Rath’gar was the last egg to hatch, and in his first breath, Shal’anir found her the very last of her truest defenders.

Rath’gar is heavily armoured even by wyvern standards. Heavy-set scales protect his face, spine, chest, and extremities, making landing a blow that doesn’t slight off of him difficult. His scales are pure obsidian and his wings a deep shade of purple mingled with the same black as the rest of him. Even his fire is black, ghostly shades of rich purple flecking the otherwise ebon flames that absorb all light. The only true colour on this giant would be his eyes; bright purple beneath his heavy brow, staring out with an unnerving intensity to go along with his overwhelming sentience.

For a wyvern, Rath’gar is unnaturally calm. When he was younger, he didn’t partake in the usual sibling rivalry, rarely even vocalising his discontempt. As he grew, Rath’gar’s silence remained, only occasionally growling or hissing, and much of his communication came solely from his eyes. When he was content, his gaze was kind, watching calmly and remaining aloof. When he was angered, that gentleness would be gone, eyes seething as he stared down whoever had crossed him.

Perhaps it was this that drew Ka’avak to him. Rath’gar, in simple terms, spent much of his time watching. Sometimes it would be with the usual aloof air he’d grown up with. Other times, there was a scary level of intensity behind the gaze as he looked to pick apart what he was watching, break it down, and really work to understand it. As he grew, his maturity flourished, and, when taken under Ka’avak’s wing alongside his sister, Zek’hara, he grew much quicker and larger than she did. While his sister was still squawking and squabbling with Ka’avak, Rath’gar flew and hunted alongside the much larger female - her subordinate through choice as much as dictation, and answering her call whenever she gave it.

For now, however, Rath’gar’s presence within Shal’anir is hidden to all except her most trusted. The queen cannot risk word of wyverns spreading out further than she can control, not until Rath’gar, his sister, and Shal’anir herself are all truly strong enough to withstand whatever may come their way should others catch wind of the last remnants of a dying era, and seeks to ensure all of their survival at any cost. One day, she trusts that Rath’gar will do the same, and, already, it seems that the wyvern of ebon fire is almost ready.

APPEARANCE
Heavily-armoured and heavily-built, Rath'gar may not be quite as muscular as Ka'avak, but is no pushover. His scales are iridescent black, shimmering in the low light, and wings are tinted with a deep purple. Possessing purple eyes on account of his close proximity to Shal'anr when he hatched, they're flecked with the same black as his scales and hold as much sentience in them as any other dragon.

HEIRACHY
Subservient to Ka'avak on account of being male, Rath'gar is unusual in that he's on equal ground to his sister rather than below her. This dominance over his sister isn't something that's obvious, because it's more mental rather than physical. Rath'gar stands in stoic silence beside his alpha, looking to be biding his time.

INHERITANCE
On account of coming from a clutch that had been laid centuries prior, only to fall dormant after the death of the mother and forgotten, Rath'gar's lineage is unclear. He's similar, but not identical to, Ka'avak, and, as he's grown, the difference between them has become more apparent. As he has matured, his intellect has blossomed, and there's something different about this wyvern. Words do not evade this one, and he will use them.
