Biography

MIRTH
[ light • caster ]

patron of dawn | benevolent, inspirational, easy-going

Mirth is one of the ancient primordials, born from the beloved alliance of the Lightweaver and the Arcanist. Once he made practice of circling Sorneith in the morning's light, ushering in the dawn when the world was still learning to turn. In those early years, nothingness was more eager than creation, and night would fall when Mirth retired to the cradle of the Arcanist. However as the war quelled and dragonkind spread itself across the surface of the earth, the flames of humanity ate away at the darkness. And when the ancients were put to slumber, Mirth's will to flit between clans and visit his mortal companions faltered as well. Lines had been drawn in Sorneith's young earth and he selected his: a proud figure of his father, and moreover the eternal servant of the planet, no matter what battles its people caused. There was always an essence of loneliness to this existence, but he swallowed it selflessly, knowing it was such an aspect of life. For so long his closest companion was his half-sister, the guardian of atmosphere, whose realm he visited on each of his flights. In some time she introduced him to her lover the comets, even if Mirth could never see her beyond her distant voice. But they were not lonely like him.

In the wake of modern dragonkind's creation, the Arcanist began to collect his wild creations, though his love was always predominantly for his most beloved prophet. None were so old as Mirth and most courted the mortals more than he: they existed as vacancy before dragons wished for nightmares and song, and owed their fortunes to the flesh and blood dragons they towered above. The world had progressed far beyond when it first opened its newborn eyes to the light, and at least in Mirth's eyes it was strange that it never birthed the usher of darkness. It was a conundrum that he was one side of a coin, lofting as well the role another should have played. That was, until the birth of the Earthshaker's children.

The discovery of the first obelisks set the dragons of Sorneith into a thrilling hunger that was largely unmatched by those older than them. The Arcanist tittered over how the Earthshaker had born a new clutch long after so many of them had forgotten how to breathe life. But it was Lucien the prophet who bid Mirth's company; there was magic down there encased in rose-tinted stone, that could not be born until it felt the rays of true light. In service to their father (but truly out of apprehensive curiosity himself), Mirth slunk through the hand-carved tunnels under a shawl of darkness until he came upon the statue of which Lucien spoke. It was a still creature of pure rhodonite, partially buried in its nest of the earth. Mirth coiled about the creature and so did its shell break: born to the cold world was a beast with swirling fur of light and dark, and once their eyes met did Mirth know he had found his companion. The obelisk named himself for the first thing he saw: Solare, the vision of morning light.
