patron of prophecy | forbearing, regal, inquisitive
Lucien is said to be the first created of the Arcanist, far before the god ever breathed life into the first fae, before he even knew of his divine touch. The wars of the previous Age had faded, tangling together some of the first immortals that were now called Primordials: lonely Dawn and the four winds, for instance. They were the first evidence that the gods could create not only elements, but life. Their elemental magic teemed with a power much greater than simply storms and wildfires and darkness — it was what underlay all energy on the planet, capable of creating sentient beasts where it lingered. Thus when the explosion occurred and the Arcanist was born, no one could know for certain if he was a deity or simply another incident brought to life from powerful magic — if not for Lucien. The projection of energy from a god's birth rippled through the flames like an exploding star. Lucien was ushered forth, at the time nameless and formless, but finding himself in service of the Arcanist. In this early years he acted as his scribe, earning the Arcanist's sentiment and appreciation as the deity found his place as divine in this new world. Lucien never desired the prestige of the Arcanist. From his beginning, he was humbled by the wake of destruction that trembled across Sornieth, and has always regarded his existence to be dedicated to those who perished incidentally for his creation. The Arcanist's goal was a noble one: the Observatory was at the forefront of preventing Sornieth from promises of destruction, and Lucien has never yearned to be anywhere but.
The closeness of the Arcanist and his first pupil made it be some time before Lucien was properly considered a primordial. Most of them were scattered to the wind after their birth, having no particular affection or loyalty to the gods who created them. In turn, most gods considered them outcomes of the war, now sewn into the fabric of the planet and of little concern beyond that. The Arcanist saw things from a different perspective. The primordials were spawned from gods' magic, and as such were best taught by the deities to be more than just a neutral observer for Sornieth's fate. Lucien's constant presence beside the Arcanist privileged him to much even older primordials were not privy to. He is one of the few besides the gods who gazed upon the Astronomer as they rose from the ashes, and also witnessed the same great Emperor's demise. It was he who recorded the first faes' existence as the Arcanist crafted them in his image, and for so long tracked their bloodlines before the population of the Starfall Isles became innumerable. As all primordials are named, over time he earned himself the title of Arcane Caller, though he's far better known as the Arcanist's prophet.
Lucien's gift for prophecy and foresight appears to be innate to his existence, and as Sornieth's mortal population grew, the more he kept himself holed within the Observatory to hone his sight. Sometimes it is difficult for Lucien to determine where his consciousness is, in the present or in the future. He exists in waking visions and sleeping memories — and as a consequence, is a rather peculiar dragon to communicate with. His most notorious departure from the Observatory was centuries ago at the Arcanist's bidding to find others who might have been born primordials of his arcane magic. Only the Arcanist's first two pupils, the light caster and the plague caster, were summoned by Lucien as the duty has since been delegated to another. The primordials who live beneath the Arcanist have certainly noticed that Lucien rarely appears with them all and can do no wrong in the god's eyes... though he's earned it, in a way, for none of them would want to change positions with the world-weary creature whose life is so tied into the fate of Sornieth.
Two centuries ago, a dragon was born to rival the Arcanist's love for Lucien. Out of all the gods, the Arcanist is perhaps the most particular about his personal bonds and having children of his own. Ajani was thus a sensation in the Observatory from the start. The Arcanist bid Lucien to watch his new son's future, and so it became that Lucien's eyes were trained upon Ajani to peer into the prophecy of the demigod's life. And then a most peculiar thing occurred — he fell in love. Ajani would inevitably become a handsome, wise, and elegant imperial, one whose gazes would linger upon Lucien, whose shoulder would brush against his as Lucien swam through thoughts of the future. As Ajani did indeed become an adult and meet Lucien properly for the first time, so did Lucien's prophecy eventually come true, as they all did. And he was happy.
Presently Lucien resides in the Observatory still, dedicated to the Arcanist and the eradication of the Shade. Though Ajani has ventured from his birthplace to better combat this swelling threat, they are never more than a whisper away.
