Lore: Once upon a time, it happened that a dragon formed such an admiration for the adorable and yet graceful Skycat that she longed not only to befriend one, but to transform her appearance to look as much like it in both color and patterning as a dragon could. She spent long hours studying the species: its appearance, habits, likes and dislikes. She took the name Skye in tribute to the object of her admiration, and she joined a clan that agreed to help her in her quest to find one. Yet somewhere along the way, she concluded that she was not, in fact, suited to become the dragon embodiment of complete Skycat-likeness. Her coloration was slightly off, and her eyes could never truly echo the piercing electric blueness of the Skycat's eyes. So dedicated had she become to the idea of this perfect match that she accepted her fate as one who would help bring about her dream rather than live it herself. She bonded and became fast friends with a Triple-Sight Firebug, and she helped the clan search for another to fulfill the role she had first envisioned for herself.

The clan found this other: a tundra by the name of Tagor, who eventually took the name of Katarine. Yet after some time and discussion, it was decided that, though very close to the right coloration and possessing appropriately-colored eyes, even she wouldn't quite achieve the perfect match that had come to be a joint dream for the two dragoness friends.

The clan searched again, and this time recruited a male mirror to their cause. His colors, also, were not quite suitable, but he was so taken with the vision that he agreed to take on the necessary genes and help father a dragon to become what the clan had finally settled on as the true ideal. Following what had become tradition, he took the name Kent in tribute to the joint purpose, and he paired with Skye to try and raise their perfect Skycat likeness.

Nests came and went, however, without the right hatchling. Some lacked the proper coloration. Others, as they grew, found their ambitions lay with Lightweaver or that they dreamed of seeing more of Sornieth rather than remaining with their birth clan. Loving and supportive parents, Skye and Kent would not withhold their children from their true dreams. At the same time, they longed for the child who would share their driving passion and one day become their clan's Skycat twin and companion.

To try and hasten that journey, first one and then another of Skye and Kent's sons agreed with Katarine to try and raise nests with her to see if a second line might produce the long-desired child. It did not, however, and both boys began feeling the stir to exaltation more and more strongly.

At this stage, the team did yet another search for dragons who might be brought to share in their dream. This time, they not only recruited another partner, but found their entire vision expanding. With two unrelated lines, could they not raise children who, if they wanted to and shared the vision, could not only possibly become the culmination of their parents' dreams, but could help them fill Sornieth with dragons whose appearance bore tribute to the vanishingly rare Skycat they all adored? True, not all would be the collaborators' perfect, ideal match, just as none of the collaborators themselves were. But most would bear at least a recognizable resemblance, and a few might attain the fully ideal match of which their forebears had dreamed. Thus the idea of founding the Skycat-like subspecies was born.

The group's newest member took the name Skyan, and once appropriate genes could be acquired for him, he and Katarine agreed to pair together as the second branch of the founding Skycat-like lines, while Skye and Kent remained paired as the first branch. If any of their children wished to join in their quest, one from each line could pair to form yet another branch. And so their dream could reach beyond just their clan to any other clans who wished to share in their salute to such a rare and precious familiar.
