Arctos was separated from her birth clan at an early age, cast adrift by one of the many powerful windstorms of the Twisting Crescendo. When Vastatio found her still body in the Tsunami Flats, at the edge of Lightning territory, she was not expected to survive. Much to the surprise of her adoptive clan, she made a complete recovery - except for her wings, which were damaged in the fall.
Determined to fly again, Arctos sought help from the clan's healers and began the long, laborious process of rehabilitating her injured wings. While her broken bones eventually mended, the muscles and ligaments were weakened by her long convalescence, and as she grew larger she was unable to fly for long periods of time. Undeterred, Arctos apprenticed under Corundum and eventually fashioned herself a pair of metal wings that supported her damaged wings and allowed her to fly just as well as any of the adults in her clan. Since developing her first prototype, she has refined the design of her wings several times, and has applied her studies and personal experience to develop other biomechanical enhancements. Her augments and prosthetics have improved the quality of life for many of the clan's members.
Arctos now enjoys roaming across the Shifting Expanse, surveying the desert and the surrounding lands for life below, and while she feels the wanderlust that is at the heart of all Wind dragons, she has no desire to leave her adopted clan. She relishes the company of her free-spirited and intelligent clanmates and is particularly close to Corundum, her metalcrafting mentor, and Hanyi, who continually tutors her in mathematics and the latest scientific discoveries.
