Born and raised in a small but self-sufficient farming town, Gerda understands the importance of community. She's beloved by all her neighbors, known to be always eager to lend a helping hand in need or a sympathetic ear to their complaints. And though she's seen her own fair share of hardship, she always strives to maintain a positive outlook for the sake of those around her.

Her sister Kai is the most important aspect of her life--though some might say her protectiveness is a little excessive. But what few realize is that beneath Gerda's cheerful exterior is someone long starved for close relationships. Having lost her parents at a young age and grown up with few friends, Gerda has felt alone for much of her life. Kai is the one person she cannot afford to lose.
