Joining the Band of Renegades (Part 9)
After meeting with Moonrise and Midnight, you feel much better despite your emotional roller coaster earlier. Still not 100 percent, you remind yourself, but that’s ok, there are others here going through the same thing, and know how hard it is. Cirrus still is visibly worried, but you doubt there’s not much you can do to convince her that you’re really ok to continue.

“You sure you’re ok? You’re not pushing yourself to finish, are you?” concern is thick in her voice.

“I’m fine, honestly. And I’m feeling much better now after meeting with them.”

Cirrus stares at you, not convinced one bit. As expected.

“Only two more stops left, and then you can well and truly settle in. I promise I’ll try to make these quick.”

You nod, appreciating the consideration, although not feeling it is necessary. You notice a den with light glowing from inside it, bright and inviting. Cirrus lets out a disappointed sigh, she’s doing that a lot, I wonder if that’s normal. She motions for you to enter, and you oblige.

“Tilallai, are you busy?” she calls out.

“Cirrus, the answer to that question is always, but I suppose I could spare time for you. What did you need?” A blue-green spiral turns her head towards you, and you notice the deep bags under her eyes. Her eyes are unfocused, and she appears to not have slept in days.

“How many times have I and Hyperion told you, its important for you to get rest? I know your job is important, but you can stand to leave some of your work to your understudies long enough to catch up on some much needed sleep.”

“Sleep is for those who aren’t coming up with ways to safely get our team in and out with minimal risk.”

She gestures to her desk, covered in various papers and inkwells. It’s cluttered beyond imagine, and you wonder how its possible to find anything there, let alone get any work done.

“Just look at your desk! I know you, and I know you’re usually more organized than this. Don’t make me call Diadem and have them pull rank on you.”

“Fine, fine. I’ll rest. After you introduce me to your companion there.” Tilallai points her tail at you.

“A new recruit, they’re looking for a division to work for. I’d hoped to show them your… not exhausted side.”

“A pleasure to meet you. I’m Tilallai, if you hadn’t guessed. I’m the Chief Strategist. My job is to use the information provided by the mages and the scouts to create plans for safe extractions. The safety of our extraction team and the dragon needing extraction rests on my creating a perfect strategy. As you can see, sometimes it takes a good amount of time to complete, and time is of the essence in these scenarios.”

“It sounds difficult, and stressful.” You gesture to her exhausted state.

“Its a challenge, and I eagerly accept a good challenge.” She smiles, though it appears more of a smirk than anything else.

“And its a challenge to keep you out of the healing den. Please get some rest, you’re of no use to anyone in this state,” Cirrus shoots Tilallai a pointed glare.

“Going, going. But don’t think for a second that the rookies are getting their hands on this strategy. This is my hard work here, I won’t be responsible for their failure.” With that, she slinks off into the den, shutting off the lights as she goes.
