"Give fools their gold, and knaves their power; let fortune's bubbles rise and fall; who sows a field, or trains a flower, or plants a tree, is more than all."

Chrysophylax's name means "gold guard".
It's a very large name for a very small dragon; especially one who never wanted anything big... much less associated with glittering metals and gems.

The little banescale was found as an egg washed up from a shipwreck. Since the clan that lived nearby needed new blood, Chrysophylax's egg was given over to the dragon who held the position of hoard protector. Raised to know metals and gems and to be able to protect the lair's treasure from others, the foundling learned a lot from his mentor.

Unfortunately, Chryso wanted nothing to do with cold, inanimate things. To him, gems and metal were dead and cold and their sparkle had no true light to them. Whenever the banescale could sneak away, he couldn't be kept out of the garden.

His mentor finally got fed up with trying to get him to stay the regular way and Chryso was punished by being spelled to remain a child until he gave up childish ways.

What his mentor didn't factor in was that Chryso would rather give up his large, strong body than give up the feel of life around him out in the garden.

So, little or not, he left. Fortune favors the brave, and Chryso was drawn to the lush lands of Chaotic Daydreams. Here he can do whatever he wants... and what he wants most is to
help things grow.
