Shikamaru is a Shinobi from Konoha. He was born in the Nara-Clan and showed a rare intellect from young age. He had poor grades however as he took no interest in classes or tests and used to sleep through them.
Shikamaru was a calm child, preferred to watch the clouds pass or play Shogi instead of causing trouble. He was the first to see past Choji's weight who was mocked by other children. They both became friends and later got into Team Asuma with Ino. Asuma became a great guidance for Shikamaru and his death made him mature very quickly. He grew into a responsible leader who is always thinking about his team's safety, although his lazy attitude often still shines through.

Shikamaru is highly intelligent. He has a strong moral compass and although he rarely seems motivated he is always dedicated to his friends. He likes to think about his next move and uses complex strategies in battle. His ability to analyze battles quickly made him the first Chunin of his year: by thinking through his possibilities in a staged fight correctly, knowing that he had no chance of winning and surrendering.
As he grew up he is considered the smartest person in Konoha.
He can use his shadow and form it to attack or bound an enemy, a Kekkei-Genkai from his clan.
