Ithlifa
~Warrior~

No proper bio yet, I'm afraid. Please be patient.

Notes:
  • Ithlifa's first memories are of love, grim determination, burning anger and desperate hope. Or, no, that's not right... those aren't her memories. Her first memory is of heat, and confusion, and loss.
  • "We sing you this song now as we all die. / If you should fly free, remember our song: / Fly far and fly wide to see the next dawn!"
  • She remembered. She knew this was a second, maybe a last chance for the Banescales. She heard the Song Sing of encroaching Ice, threatening to smother all warm life, of the last glorious, devastating battle. The confused hatchlings in this cave are all that are left, and maybe Ithlifa can't save all of them... but she has to try.
  • Most others don't remember as much as she does. They are all barely hatched, and the oncoming magma are going to kill a lot of them, hatched too weak after too long in the egg, and they are confused, and scared, and lonely, and they won't listen.
  • The Song gets ever louder, thrumming through her body ("Flamecaller’s Children must take to the skies!") and she can't stay, she can't, she has to live, they wanted them to live, but she can't just leave everyone here!
  • ...so she takes one. One, weaker than most others, but he remembers, and he listens, so Ithlifa croons apology after apology through the blood dripping from her mouth as she drags the other hatchling out underneath the open sky, her wings just barely strong enough for them both, and he hums broken reassurances back.
  • They travelled together for a bit, but the Song never stops echoing, Signing of the danger of clumping up, the fear of extinction... and in the end it drives the confused hatchlings apart, even as the weaker one's leg wound starts festering. Ithlifa never stops feeling guilty for leaving him (for leaving so many of them down there), but she just couldn't stay.
  • She channels the guilt. Their kin had wanted them to live, not to wallow in guilt. So Ithlifa lives, lives well enough for both of them in case the weak one didn't make it, in case her attempt at saving him killed him. She does her best to make sure her every moment is vibrant, something to weave new songs about to fill in the gaps with so that the last song of pride-fear-anger will stop haunting her.
  • She arrives at the Outpost's doorstep exhausted and dehydrated, unable to fly any further, no matter how much she might wish. They take her in and sing her new songs to drown out her ancestors' warnings so that she can rest. Rest in safety, with seasoned warriors sheltering her.
  • The Outpost becomes her safe hearth, her home, her beating heart. She gets into the habit of shielding and protecting it while still young and sheltered under the wings of the warriors, tottering along in their footsteps and learning, watching, listening, singing. She never stops, just grows into herself and her role until she has the strength to match her heart and will and can protect the Outpost in turn as it has protected her.
  • She's bossy, and vibrant, adores hatchlings, and is a fierce and unrelenting defender for those who can't defend themselves.
  • Ithlifa's name means "again life" or "live again".
