One of the first Banescale to arrive at Home after the revival of the ancient species, Gyro's egg hatched after it was carried to the Starfall Isles by traders hoping to fetch a good price. He managed to escape and, luckily, a few dragons from Home in the area picked him up. If there's one thing he's always been able to do, it was pick a lock - some dragons at Home think Gyro was probably born with tools in his claws. Gyro tries not to think too much about being a Banescale. Being a Banescale means he was born without a culture and without a history, but as far as he's concerned, he fits in just fine at Home, and that's all the history he needs. He tries not to think about how he's only alive by accident - he's here, and he's going to make that everyone else's problem, too.

Eccentric and good-natured, Gyro is considered perhaps the best young inventor at Home. He has a great mind for all things technical, and his ability to think outside the box and his absolute inability to quit means he often surpasses other technologically-minded dragons simply because he won't stop until he's done something. His typical response to "you can't do that" is "oh yeah? Watch me!" Though he's never an intentionally rude or unfriendly dragon, Gyro doesn't have great social skills, and his tendencies to be impatient and somewhat arrogant don't really help. He has no intentions of being modest about his intellect, and he also tends to be snappish and sassy with other dragons. Things can often go to his head, and his arrogance can seem grating to dragons who don't know him well. Despite his skill as an inventor, Gyro can get so excited he rushes things and they don't go exactly as he planned (a joke around Home: "what develops artificial intelligence within two days and cuts apples into three pieces? One of Gyro's robots designed to cut apples into four pieces!") Though he's well-known for being somewhat impatient and terse, Gyro absolutely loves working with other scientists at Home, and is known for displaying a surprising amount of patience when talking with hatchlings who show an interest in science. He can be a bit of an acquired taste, but everyone at Home knows Gyro's one of the brightest dragons around.

Gyro is short for 'gyroscope' or 'gyrocompass.'
