Biography

cadou 'croquette' wood
he/him | homosexual | craftsdragon | baker
wDCLQYA.png
|| Background
Cadou is, technically, a very old dragon indeed. His egg was laid in ancient times, one of the clutches locked into the secret chamber where the Banescale elders protected their last children with their very lives. However, when the Bounty of the Elements bathed the eggs in magma and freed them all from their icy prison, Cadou was not one of the dragons who hatched. His egg was pushed against a wall, half-buried in the ash; unaffected by the magma flow, he was there to remain until enterprising bandits from above came in to loot remained in the ancient resting place.

From there, his egg was bumped around from claw to claw, bought and sold between traders interested in the ancient object with no real idea how to hatch the Banescale inside. Eventually, he was found by a scavenger who stole Cadou from a collector in the Wind flight and brought him to Rara Avis, a clan where he sold his wares. There, he was given to the clan's nest-tender, the gentle Helima. She proceeded to nurse the egg back to health and eventually, hatching, revealing that inside, the Lightning Flight had imprinted on him during his journey.

Croquette was then raised exclusively among modern dragons, cared for by his loving foster mother in Rara Avis. He quickly grew up into a dragon none of them had seen before, but that didn't stop him from being part of his home. Croquette discovered a passion for cooking and baking very young, and as a hatchling often tailed Halindor and Linnaeus, eagerly accepting anything they would teach him about becoming a chef.

Lacking the front arms most modern breeds have, Croquette at first struggled to become what he dreamed to be, but he adapted. Soon, he was just as dexterous with his feet and mouth as any Spiral was with their claws, and could even use his tail as a tool to help cook. With a little ingenuity on his side, Croquette became a talented baker, creating delicious treats that he loved to make.

|| Current
Croquette now works at the place he grew up in, serving as The Golden Rose's resident chef and baker. He's a soft-spoken, friendly sort, mild-mannered and pleasant, and many patrons and residents of the clan find themselves besotten by the handsome, cheerful Banescale. He loves his work as well, and wants to do it as long as he can.

However, he is not unaware that he is the only dragon like him in the entirety of Rara Avis. No one knows what, exactly, he is, and in his lesser moments Croquette feels very alone. He is loved by his foster mother and many members of Rara Avis, and does not feel unwelcome, but he is acutely aware that he is very different. Having hatched from the frozen nest, he has distant, faded memories of the songs of his ancestors— but he doesn't know why the melodies that sometimes float through his head call to him so strongly. Croquette doesn't want to leave his home, but he knows that the answers to his abnormalities lie elsewhere... he just has to rack up the courage to go find them.

|| Notes
◈ The stuffed mith that Croquette keeps in his personal den is a hand-sewn gift from his mother. It is stuffed with dried flower petals as well as fluff, and he snuggled with it as a hatchling. He still keeps it in his nest to this day.
◈ Helima let him choose his own name once he got old enough to speak properly, but she had been calling him 'Croquette' before then. He elected to keep it as a nickname, although 'Cadou' is his legal given name.
◈ Though they are technically foster siblings, Croquette has never really met his brother Elturgard, who is much older than him and prefers to stay away. He is close with his foster sister Pembe, however, and takes care of her every so often when Helima is busy.
◈ Croquette's most popular dish is his danishes, which he makes with berries grown in the Rara Avis crater.
◈ Though Linnaeus is his coworker, Croquette considers him almost somewhat of a father figure, as he taught him how to cook when he was young.
◈ Croquette met Cernunnos through his mother, who has a lover in the other Banescales' home clan. Upon finding out that Cernunnos was from ancient times and remembered much of it, Croquette immediately latched onto him, and the two became close. Recently, however, Croquette's heart flutters when he sees him in a way that is a little more than just excitement...
