Rebirth

Many Mirrors survived the Scarred Wasteland. Some packs survived in the heat of the Ashfall Waste, or the swelter of the Viridian Labyrinth, or the dryness of the Shifting Expanse. Hers survived in the cold of the Southern Icefield. They wandered the land, building up tolerance to the cold...or suffering frostbite and hypothermia. Her pack warned her that there was safety in numbers. They warned her not to stray. But she hated it. She knew there had to be something better than this. So, the young Mirror struck out on her own, travelling to warmer lands...

She did not get far.

There was a surge in magic across Sornieth. Old, forgotten dragons seemed to suddenly return. Old bones stirred...

A roar. A hiss. A memory. A vengeful spirit... The burning flame, extinguished...the the smoke, which trailed after the snuffed light. The young Mirror was oblivious to the tormented soul over whose grave she trod...until the spirit ravaged her.

The Mirror howled in agony as her bones twisted and snapped, as her muscles bulged and tore, as her forelegs absorbed into her body, and as her mind was burned away. Smoke billowed around her face, tail, and feet, and her eyes -- now only two -- glowed a pale blue. By the time the transformation finished, the young Mirror was dead. In her place, having robbed her of, and reshaped her physical material, was a ruthless soul given form once more. A Banescale... A victim of the Gaolers' ice in that war so many years ago.

She had not joined in the song of the dying. She had screamed in defiance, hatred and vengeance propelling her onward, deep into enemy territory, where she crushed, and seared, and shredded her foes. She had not noticed when reinforcements circled around her. The Gaolers she fought teamed up with their allies, and froze her, then crushed her. It was how she had died...

But now... Now, she was returned. The world was changed...

It was softer... She could feel it.

The reborn Banescale lifted her face to the sky and swayed her head to the song of Sornieth. Yes... Much had changed... But the time of the Banescale had again come. Despite being frozen through -- down to her very depths, to the point where she could no longer summon even a flicker -- she would bring about an era for fire once more.

The world would burn. The ice would melt. And Banescales would reign supreme under the Flamecaller once more!

Naming the Extinguished One

"Anafleksesi" is my best attempt at spelling αναφλέξει using English letters, though it sounds more like "Anafulexi" (with the "u" making the "oo" sound, as in "tooth") according to the audio I have available. It's Greek and means "ignite" or "inflame." Since I'm using this for a name rather than a true translation, I've decided that I don't have to be strictly accurate, and can simply use the word as inspiration for her name. As such, I've decided to go with how I hear the audio combined with English Phonetics/pitch accent to construct her name.

When it comes to Banescales who have some strong connection to the Banescales of the past, I prefer picking names that are Greek or Greco-Roman in nature, since they remind me of Spartans. Seeing as this particular one is one of the Banescales of old reborn, I wanted to take this to a sort of extreme. Also, being from a culture that was all about fire, I wanted to choose a fire-related name. Hence "Anafuleksi."
