Puddenston

The third child of Wainwright and Maud’s second clutch. The two older hatchlings were inspired to join the ranks of devotees of the Tidelord after the arrival of the Water Witch. However, Puddenston was content to stay at home and collect pebbles, feathers, and other things with which to line the winter dens. Gentle and sweet, he wanders where he wills. Aoide suspects that he is not quite all there, but his remaining sister defends him fiercely.

After growing up, Puddenston still did not speak much. He would wander out into the nearby wilderness, much to Tidewrath’s dismay. But he never came to any harm. Then one day, a familiar escaping from Nudibranch’s clutches rushed past him, and a light erupted in his eyes. He stood to his feet and bellowed a challenge to the female Banescale. Nudibranch bellowed back, even though he was six times her size.

Aoide, Boreas, Tidewrath, and practically the rest of the clan had to intervene before there was a true battle. But Puddenston had found his Charge: he is the protector of all the familiars that the hunting and war parties bring home. The primitive mammalian markings appeared a few days later, and began to spread over his back to help him relate to the creatures more. He still does not talk much; he prefers spending time with his creature friends than with other dragons. And he still has a passionate hatred for Nudibranch. Tidewrath has her claws full trying to keep them apart.

He adopted a young Guardian named Cerisa who arrived from the KDK lair. He was as devoted to her and as fiercely protective over her as over any of his familiars. When she chose exaltation, to be with her children, he was so heartbroken that he disappeared into the den, along with all his companions and familiars. No one ever saw him again. Not even Tidewrath. Still, the familiars are there for the asking; if a dragon comes to the mouth of the cave and requests a particular familiar, it will appear, as if guided by an invisible claw.
