Traversing the Platforms, you find yourself on an anomaly of an island; the grass here is a diluted and dim teal growing directly from grey-blue rock, a shocking difference to the typical soft green and brown dirt of the other islands. Tall stalagmites reach toward the sky while large crystalline shaped rocks float around aimlessly, tethered by nothing. A blackened pentagonal stone altar sits in the center, raised a few feet above the ground with five stone pillars towering at each corner, sand surrounding the ground around it. Sitting upon a circular sand patch in the center of the altar is a Pearlcatcher, who gives you a vague frown.
"Greetings, I am Izax the Sorcerer, but I'm afraid now is not a good time for visitors, I am in the middle of my sorcery. Perhaps you can come back later."
Izax doesn't wait for a response, and instead turns away from you in clear dismissal.

Origins

Izax’s egg was deemed nonviable at birth and abandoned in a cave because of that, though he hatched regardless. Alone in a complex system of caves, Izax was teetering on the edge of survival and began to seek out a clan that could help him. As he scoured the endless caverns, Izax grew weaker and more desperate, struggling to survive on the meager meals he could find. Losing hope, Izax began to lament his worries to the stone walls, and promptly thought himself mad when the walls spoke back. A Voice was echoing through the caverns and into his mind, speaking of a way to survive, a way to become stronger. Izax promised his loyalty to the Voice and found himself gifted with a portion of it’s magical ability, which was much stronger than his own natural talents. Regrettably, Izax couldn't see the madness taking hold of him. The gifted magic began to take control, twisting his thoughts to ones of hunger for power and freedom, pressing him to search for the Voice. He tracked the Voice through the caverns, eventually finding himself in a complex lair of some unknown clan, which he fought his way through to the Voice, imprisoned for its crimes of strength. Izax went to free it, listening to its promise of strength, riches, and authority, all withheld from him by draconic society. Before he could do more than glimpse the figure imprisoned--a dark and chained Ridgeback--Izax was hit by a wave of bright magical force. Pain wracked through his mind, tearing back the rippling darkness that had settled within without his notice. When it finally lifted, the door with the Voice was closed, and Izax was surrounded by unknown dragons. Over the coming weeks, Izax would discover two major things: his mind had been poisoned by the Voice (more commonly known as the Dark Queen) and the remaining shadows of her power would likely linger forever, and he was welcomed into the clan he had attacked--the Galestorm Flyers. The latter fact was in part due to Izax's now permanent link with the Dark Queen--if he succumbed to her power again it would be dangerous to many--but also due to the mage Izax’s knowledge of the Dark Queen’s magic. Izax began to work as the clan's sorcerer, studying the effects of the Dark Queen's magic through his own experience while trying to pull apart what thoughts were his and what were the Voice's. When the clan moved to the Windswept Plateau, Izax found himself building his own personal island in the Platforms to continue his studies, allowing his innate magic to blossom. Where the Dark Queen’s magic had consisted of bending shadows, Izax began to work with the earth, using his magic to summon great stone spires and melt sand into gold. Slowly, Izax builds his own space in the world, carefully crafted away from the dangerous talons of the Dark Queen.

Personality

Izax is known to be a mostly solitary dragon, though he is not particularly unsociable. On the occasions he interacts with other dragons, Izax is polite, attentive to the conversations, and understanding, though not necessarily participative. Many assume that Izax stays apart from others because he doesn’t like company, but that is not the case in any sense of the matter. Izax is actually quite the sociable dragon--many of his days of solitude are filled with one-sided conversations with his familiar who he fondly named Shatter--but isolates himself out of fear stemming from the Dark Queen. Having lost his mind to her power once before, Izax fears losing it once again, as well as the resulting carnage. In order to prevent any outside influences wounding his mental defenses and control any damage from future insanity, Izax isolates himself. He portrays himself as quiet, standoffish, and generally unbothered, maintaining even tones and neutral stances on most matters in effort to appear “alright” to the clan. Any conversations had with him are short, polite, and to the point, though he mostly sends unnecessary conversations away for their safety, particularly when he is practicing his magic. However, this forced social distance weighs heavily on him, and those who dare to look beyond his facade find a rather dismal dragon filled with loneliness. He finds comfort in the only two creatures he trusts to defend themselves (and him) from his mind: his familiar Shattered, and Mahal, who saved him from insanity in the first place. Together, the three have attempted to put Izax back together in mind and spirit as his control over the remnants of the Dark Queen’s magic strengthens. Slowly, Izax is allowing his thoughts to wander more and he sees more of other dragons, though he still avoids performing magic around them if he can manage it.
