Socius The Herbalist

Custos spends a while talking to you, trying to tease out your purpose in the clan, but finally determines you mean no harm to Socius and allows you to see her. You open the door to find a large cave filled from floor to ceiling with trees, plants, and propped open cages. Wrapped around a tree in the center is a curiously green spiral, covered in snakes, frogs, and other small animals. "Hello!! Socius is pleased to meet you, Socius heard from Karra that a dragon was meeting the clan, yes yes. Socius likes Karra..." |

Origins
| Socius was born to Marsh, the leader of her home clan and a childish, excitable dragon--a trait that Socius would inherit. As a hatchling, it was clear that she did not enjoy the company of most other dragons, her mother being an exception. In the beginning, she struggled with speech, and when she finally grasped the concept, she spoke only in third person. Often times, when presented with other hatchlings to speak to, Socius retreated to her own mind, or spiraling into a meltdown. Despite Socius's oddities and struggles, her mother loved her dearly and taught her to embrace the joy she saw in the world. Socius grew up under the kind and guiding wing of Marsh, attempting (and failing) at most aspects of life: hunting, tracking, flying, construction, and even healing. Most days, socializing and managing relations with stranger dragons was difficult at best, meltdown provoking at worst; to say it was not her strong point was an understatement. Finally, after a long time of developing life skills, she moved out of her clan though still unsure of her path in life, zigzagging across the land. It was some time later when she finally discovered her new home, the Galestorm Flyers, though quite by accident. On her journey Socius had discovered that she quite enjoyed the companionship of animals, and had begun to gather small lizards, snakes, frogs, and other creatures. When her most beloved snake--Karra--fell sick, Socius panicked and searched desperately for help, finding the Galestorm Flyers and Serasorth in the process. She nursed Karra back to health and stayed with the Flyers for a few months, mostly keeping to herself. In her temporary den she set up cages and plants to make the animals at home, and as her own personal (but chaotic) garden. When Nantis offered her a place as the clan herbalist, Socius accepted for a few reasons that she does not share, and now maintains her position faithfully, indebted to the dragons who saved her friends. It didn't take long for Custos to take her up as a pseudo-charge, guiding her through a world that didn't quite sit right with her, and protecting her from dangers she didn't understand. |

Personality
Socius is somewhat of a wildcard to the other members of the clan, aside from perhaps Hallow--who has built a relationship with the strange spiral--and Custos, who knows her well enough to translate between her and the world. Socius has always spoken exclusively in third person with broken, childish sentences, but maintains surprisingly intelligence. On the rare occasion that Socius has been truly understood, she has stated that she simply struggles to translate her thoughts to words--she thinks in concepts rather than language. Though hyperactive and easily distracted, Socius is a dedicated herbalist whose goal is to assist Serasorth and live up to her name: ally in Latin. Despite this, she is not directly involved in the healer's work, but rather supplies him with whatever she can. She cares deeply for her variety of small animals in her care and ensures that each one gets a loving home, food, water, and medical attention. Because of this, her lair is almost always in chaos, as she is not the most organized of dragons in any way shape or form, having once lost her own tail some how. Socius will spend her days napping in assorted places in her mess of a lair, watering and caring for her plants, and (of course) caring for the animals (mostly Karra, who is permanently ill). She and Custos will often spend their time wandering the desert or bothering Shivani in search of herbs--Custos is more content to watch Socius than help her.
