the illegitimate son of a noblewoman and castle guard, the conditions of auravis' birth were kept secret. under the strict class system of the former monarchy, the discovery of his parentage would suggest exile at best and death at worst for his mother and father. left at the gate of the palace's barracks, they only hoped he might make a living as a squire or knight, departing after that night to never meet again. as a child, he was cared for primarily by seraphael, an older knight with children of his own, though he was looked after fondly by the whole of the queen's guard. following the birth of princess cheraime, their closeness in age and his own growing prowess soon saw him assigned to be her protector. where she went, he went, ensuring her safety around the clock. though his quietude made him an unpopular companion among the rest of the knights, cheraime found him a wonderful listener, and they grew close with so much time spent in each other's company. a kind and gentle heart betrayed his solemn demeanor, and while he spoke little even when spoken to, the two became the best of friends. at the dissolution of clan morrigan, cheraime attempted to dismiss him, their positions no longer of import. he declined, remaining firmly at her side. together, it was they who led the remainder of morrigan's people to the sunbeam ruins. at first their new home had neither name nor army, and for a time he struggled to find purpose without a princess to protect. often he would wander the woods aimlessly, unsure. in the woods, he came to enjoy hunting, perhaps a natural transferal of his previous experience as a knight. it came as no surprise to those that knew him that he became a deft hunter, going on to provide the majority of the clan's game. when the garrison was established, auravis was the natural choice for its captain, and so it was. outside of hunting, auravis can frequently be found training other dragons who wish to become strong, and helping with any sort of tasks around the clan requiring muscle-- repairing homes, wrangling familiars, and the like. he quite enjoys gardening, and is no stranger to tea breaks with his former lady. |
