”Maybe I was the only one who believed that I belonged.”
“可能在那里，只唯独我以为我是属于他们的。” Raised among Effluvial Crows, Wuchang believed himself to be one of them for a long time. However, he was awakened after an injury to one of his eyes in adulthood revealed part of his true appearance. After healing, Wuchang chose to leave his sect to gain experience outside and to process the new discovery. Feeling that he no longer belonged, he accepted the empress’ offer to follow her during a chance encounter in his travels.

”她给予我母亲的爱，我欠了她儿子的孝。” The late empress had always favoured the brilliant colorations and combat prowess of the Effluvial Crow, admiring the strong species. After the death of her first clutch, she left the imperial palace to travel. In her travels, she came across a young crow, a disciple of the Wei’an sect. Finding him both endearing and capable, she invited him back to the imperial city as her bodyguard. That young dragon came to be known as the oldest prince of the Jin royal line.

”虽无血脉相连，我的心是早已是金的。” Even after being adopted by the empress, Wuchang was not supposed to have a right to inheritance, since he had no Jin blood in his veins. However, he was greatly favoured by the then empress who was in turn favoured by the emperor. As such, he was granted the status and rights of a blood heir.

”Is this loneliness my fate?”
”这种孤独是我的宿命吗？” Wuchang maintained the appearance of an Effluvial Crow in the capital as it was preferred by the empress, though neither made significant efforts to hide his true form, being far enough removed from other crow clans. After the empress passed from sickness, Wuchang mostly withdrew from court matters, and no longer wearing his false skin. He dresses in black as a sign of mourning.

“人终究还是有欲望的。有了欲望的人，是永远无法自在的。” Wuchang had chosen to remove himself from the struggle for the inheritance, forever remaining a prince on the sidelines— but who would let him? The oldest prince, beloved by the emperor, no one believed he could resist the allure of power. Attempts to join him, attempts to remove him, Wuchang faced them all... in the end, the emperor asked him to enter the royal court once more, if only for his safety. However, if he cannot harden his heart, what awaits him?

“人生得一知己，足矣 。” An old friend, a companion, a remnant of his past. When he left his previous home, he left behind friends and acquaintances alike. Among them, it was him he was closest to. Even so, Wuchang had not expected them to meet again, with the vastness of the lands between them. He had never had the ruthlessness to scheme and plot, but Wuqing had enough for them both. Where Wuchang was a powerful warrior, Wuqing was a frail scholar. An unlikely pair, yet it is rare to find two dragons who understand each other so well. Only... Wuchang cannot question what he does for him in the shadows— it is best for the both of them that he remain in ignorance.
