Mockingbird is yet another lost child brought home by StarScout, and is, as a result, ruthlessly devoted to her. Much like Morrigaine, Mockingbird was found as an infant on one of Scout's trips around Sornieth. Scout brought her home as an abandoned egg, and for weeks, the clan worried, afraid that it had been lost for too long and would not hatch. Scout refused to give up on it, and eventually Mockingbird emerged, Scout's shining face her first sight. Like her adopted sister, Mockingbird considers Scout her mother and, though she's smaller than the pearlcatcher, would fight to the death to protect her. One or both of them tend to follow Scout -- secretly, of course; StarScout sees the best in everyone -- to ensure her safety.

Most of the familiars in the clan have been named by Mockingbird, who enjoys naming things with a childlike intensity (and similar word choices). Her goofy nature tends to shine through when she's allowed to name something, as is evident in her own familiar's name.
