Orcus was a younger adult dragon when he contracted a plague from a wandering spawnling. He became obviously ill very fast, lingering in agony for quite some time. His friends and family tried to take care of him with the best knowledge offered by those in the Shifting Expanse, but became much more distressed when, despite their best efforts, dragons from nearby lairs began to contract the affliction. Orcus discovered that his disease was either not going to kill him, or would take awhile, either of which would result in him infecting more dragons who may not survive.

Orcus escaped his family and traveled to the Plaguelands, where he met Hel, a skydancer with a similar condition. She tried to teach him of the Plaguebringer's will and told him that his sickness was actually her blessing, but Orcus could not find himself to commit as she had. He found her company comforting, but decided day after day to remain in the cave they shared. To this day, he hides himself away in the dark, silent unless approached, still unless confronted, refusing to spread his agony...
