Common belief held that to be strong, you had to be pristine. Untouched, inerrable. It was common belief that Ekrais was weak. Since his first taste of life, his new world had threatened to swallow him whole. The young hatchling had been ravaged by a fever the very moment he broke outside his shell, his every movement a languid crawl of pain. It had seemed as though the air itself was rejecting him. As though it was attempting to push his being out of his body with every breath, expel his life with every inhale. His mother had gathered his siblings, ushered them swiftly away to protect them from their dying brother.

But he lived.

Strength through survival. This is the grounding philosophy of his new clan, that which binds the Mother and all her children, adopted or birthed. Every evolving contagion that broils through the wasteland finds itself a host in the Skydancer’s body, and leaves behind a new scar on his ravaged hide in its passing. Ekrais will never be pristine- but there are none who can deny that he is strong.
