Personality
Caractacus is both a devout follower of the Mother’s will and a sly, cunning dragon of Shadow. Like many other Shadow dragons, he delights in games, especially if they take on a keener, more deadly edge. Life, he believes, is the ultimate game - one with no rules, where all players eventually lose, and participation is compulsory. The only way to even temporarily win is to survive, and to utilize any means necessary to that goal. Imposing rules only quickens the inevitable end.

Despite this belief - or perhaps because of it - he embraces life in all it’s harsh glory. Just because he is a Necromancer doesn’t mean he is above indulging himself as he chooses. After all, there is no rule that a Necromancer must be ascetic.

It doesn’t help his standing that he holds vaguely heretical ideas and beliefs. Caractacus encourages all who walk the Necromancer's path - from Servus to Wraith, and even Ghoul - to experiment with the abilities they were gifted from their Trials. Furthermore, he doesn’t believe that one fails the Trials, only that the Mother looked into them and chooses for them a path that is best suited to their innate talents.
Ghouls, especially, he reveres. He sees Ghouls as doubly blessed. Not only did they receive the blessing of plague, but were also blessed with a divine responsibility. As he sees it, they are charged to travel Sornieth hither and yon, spreading the Mother’s blessing to all they come across. With that belief, he will not Neutralize a Ghoul until they are nearly completely overtaken by the weight of the blessings they carry. Only then, will he Neutralize them so that they may serve the Mother in another capacity.

These beliefs, and his tendency to indulge his appetites, makes him a less than welcome face among Necromantic groups. While it is admitted that he is something of a genius with his gifts, it is considered a relief that Caractacus prefers to travel alone, without even a Necroservus at his side. Perhaps worrisome is that despite that, he has been seen in the company of the Neutralized Ghoul, Apoxia. One can only hope he hasn't filled her head with too much of his borderline-heretical ideas.

Necromantic Symbols
Solar Flame Candles
Lamps
A symbol of learning, openness, bravery, exploration, humility, even-handedness, and wisdom. Necromancers bearing lamps often forgo the traditional role of noble adviser and are more often solitary. Instead of worldly power, they seek personal enlightenment, and to guide others along that path. Unlike their sigil-bearing counterparts - who seek to spread Plague gospel through domination - these Necromancers are content with a more peaceful missionary role, or that of a solitary sage who leaves others to come to them. In a group that defines themselves through their command and nobility, the humble, lamp-bearing Necromancer is a rare creature indeed.
Mysterious Cowl
Cloaks
A symbol of authority, deception, sacrifice, uniformity, devotion, and service. Necromancers bearing cloaks often serve as priests to their clans. They are first and foremost disciples of Plaguebringer, and will insist that her tenets and decrees are followed to the letter. They guide the day-to-day spiritual practices of the clan and ensure all members are baptized with the latest plague.
Armor
A symbol of defense, indefatigability, resolution, tenacity, stoicism, retribution, and loyalty. Necromancers wearing armor are holy knights, often serving on behalf of the Necromantic Council to hunt down the condemned who have transgressed against Mother. Charlatans masquerading as Necromancers, unholy necromancers who raise the undead, feral Ghouls, and Lichs are all considered their prey. Necromancers wearing armor will serve without question, and will destroy whatever enemy they are pointed towards.
Weathered Scale Wingplates
Tools
A symbol of self-actualization, determination, progress, action, manipulation, creativity, and resourcefulness. Necromancers bearing tools are forward-thinking and ambitious. They are seldom content with what is, instead urging their clan and leaders toward what could be. Where many Necromancers are bogged down by tradition and dogma, these individuals readily embrace Mother's doctrine of evolution, urging all around them to become more.
Fortune Teller's Deck
Glowing Eyes
Those that burn brightest, may often burn shortest. Dragons with glowing eyes possess magical energies so intense that they manifest as a visible light that emanates from their core. Often the result of a crisis of the past, these dragons cannot hoard their magical energies. Instead it streams from them whenever they are not actively using their talents. Such readily available power allows them to perform feats that might otherwise be impossible, but it can come at the price of their health, or even shorten their lifespan. Many glowing eyed dragons profess not to mind, as if feeling they have always been living on borrowed time.

History
Caractacus was hatched to parents who were both Necromancers in their own right, and raised in the Wispwillow Grove. Neither were native to the Tangled Wood. Such is not uncommon, as the calling to Necromancy can be heard by any dragon of any Flight, and once called, are sent to Sornieth to spread the Mother’s blessings. If anything, his family is a representative of the norm rather than a deviation.

Despite soaking in the teachings from other Shadow dragons, there was little doubt that he would undergo the Trials when he came of age. After all, even as he played among the great and glowing fungi, Caractacus could hear the calling of the Mother always. He left his home of his own accord, and made his journey to the Wyrmwound, and the Necromancers.

He was not expected to succeed - and some even hoped he might fail. His laid-back and playful outlook on life was thought to be incompatible with the Necromancer lifestyle. However, Caractacus proved them wrong. He passed his Trials, and while at the time he was not in possession, he was imaginative in wielding the gifts he had been given.

As he set out in search of his own path, Caractacus became fascinated by Ghouls. At first, he hoped to Neutralize them so they might live something like a normal life. But as he studied them, he became convinced that they, in fact, contained a much purer strain of the Mother’s blessings. He came to the belief that Ghouls were not the failures many believed them to be. That they were, in fact, carriers of a divine responsibility. Only the strongest of dragons could hope to bear such a virulent strain of Mother’s blessing, and not only survive it, but have the strength bestow it upon all they came across.

To prove these newfound theories, he sought out a Virulent Ghoul alone. Caractacus knew no other Necromancer would want to be party to this experiment. He found one he thought to be perfect for the task - an Imperial driven feral by pain and sickness - and took her on.

The effort nearly killed him. It should have killed him. Fighting off the feral Ghoul's physical attacks as well as infections ought to have overwhelmed him. Somehow, it didn't. Somehow, he succeeded. Caractacus attributes his success to the Mother, and the glowing eyes he came away with Her blessing upon him, that further shows Her favor.

He now journeys the land, hunting down rumors not of Virulent Ghouls, but rather those who have lost all semblance of sanity. Those are the ones who need his intervention, for they have lost sight of the Mother’s will. Their own journey has come to an end, and it is time for them to be given a new path.
