Personality
Zayn is a very forthright individual - one might even say guileless. He says what he means and means what he says. He doesn't have a head for the intricacies of Necromancer politics, and can sometimes struggle to follow the threads. However, this shouldn't be mistaken for a lack of intelligence. Zayn shines when it comes to hands-on problems, and is able to accurately judge an opponent and develop a strategy for defeating them on the fly.He does struggle with a temper - moreso now since becoming a War Dog of the Council than ever before. He is prone to sarcasm and bitterness, something vastly different from his previous optimistic, easy going self prior to assuming the Muzzle. Some of that still remains in Zayn, but deeply buried beneath the anger and pain. |
Blades
A symbol of purification, nobility, transition, protection, aggression, strength, and ability. Necromancers bearing blades can be expected to take on a more active role in their clan. They wield their powers of contagion on the battlefield and in defense of their allies. Often they represent Plaguebringer's desire to conquer and expand and they will urge their clan leaders to push Her plague into new territories. | x |
Masks
A symbol of disguise, becoming, guidance, possession, transformation, and legitimacy. Necromancers bearing masks see themselves as instruments of the Plaguebringer and the hand that enacts her will. In Zayn's case, it symbolizes his status as one of the Council's War Dogs - Necromancers who serve the Council as something both more and less than mere Salvagers. |
Uncommon Eyes
Dragons with uncommon eyes tend to be open and easily influenced by the magical energies in their environment. Magic casters find that they have a wealth of power at their disposal if their surroundings match their element, but they can also be severely limited in lands that are foreign to their birth place. Due to their openness, dragons with uncommon eyes are especially suited to the first trial of infection. Their bodies readily accept Mother's Blessing and within days they find themselves riddled with plague. Given this early advantage, uncommon-eyed dragons typically have more time to fight off the plague and learn to control it, though their ability to do so is no greater or less than a common-eyed dragon.

History
Zayn’s mother, Dyshidr, was a Necromancer who made her home along the Rotrock Rim to better oversee those undergoing the Trials. She would often interview the dragons as they left the Wyrmwound, occasionally acting as a waypoint from the Wyrmwound to wherever they headed next. Truart, Zayn’s father, was one such dragon. He remained with Dyshidr for only a short time, but long enough that a nest soon followed after he left. Truart promised her that he would return to her, but as the day passed and the eggs incubated to maturation, he did not return. The nest hatched without him. Dyshidr didn’t speak much of Truart to her children, leading Zayn to come to the erroneous belief that he had no father. This misunderstanding was corrected before he took the Trials, but it made little impact on him. Either way, he had no father and relied only on his mothers and sisters. His decision to take the Trials was perhaps only natural. Both his parents were Necromancers in their own right, and he lived the entirety of his life at the Rotrock Rim with Necromancers, Necroservi, and Wraiths frequent visitors. Though he was not always allowed to sit in on the interviews, he hung on every word whenever he had the chance. Zayn was perhaps not quite old enough, but there was little Dyshidr could do to stop her son from doing as he pleased at that point. Having spent the bulk of his childhood hearing from both those who had passed and those who had failed their Trials, he was as prepared as any dragon could be. It came as no surprise that he walked away from the Trials a Necromancer. What was the surprise was that he chose to spend his Goddess-given talents at the service of the Council. Though Zayn was not one for politics, he felt it his duty to serve. As a young dragon fresh from his Trials, he was unsure what the nature of his service ought to be. The Council would provide ample guidance, he thought. It was during this time that he met the Effluvial Crow Necroservus, Soren, who had taken up residence nearby to wait for a Necromancer worthy of his service. Zayn maintains that the only reason Soren agreed to serve him was because he didn’t know what to expect from a Servus, as his mother never had one. While Soren doesn’t necessarily agree with this claim, the reason likely has more to do with Zayn not treating Soren as less for his status. With an Effluvial Crow both as his service and his instructor, refining his fighting abilities, it was suggested the become Salvagers for the Council - those Necromancers tasked with dealing with petitions regarding Ghouls, rogue Necromancers, and other threats to Necromancer reputation (and the Council’s reputation). Though Dyshidr advised against such a path, Zayn and Soren agreed. |

For a time, this agreed with them. However, an encounter with a Plague primal Ghoul left Zayn badly injured and infected with a particularly nasty strain of disease he was too weak to fight off himself. They were lucky to have only recently been guests of Outfit Vector, and near enough that Soren was able to drag Zayn to their gates and demand one of their Necromancers see to him. It took weeks for Kobari to fight back the disease, working tirelessly against its rapid mutations. Eventually, he was able to isolate it enough for Zayn to start regaining some of his strength. As he gained strength, he was able to work with Kobari against the disease and together they were able to conquer it and bend it to their will. Even as Zayn healed, he wished to continue working with Kobari to perfect this blessing from the Mother. Though his duties called he and Soren away, Zayn returned as often as he could. At first, it was purely out of a desire to craft a lethal weapon, but soon it developed into something far more personal as he began to fall for the older Necromancer. His feelings were not unrequited, and the two became lovers. However, it was not destined to last. Kishna discovered their relationship, and she gave to Zayn an ultimatum - the affair could continue, but in return, she would effectively own him and his Servus. Though he accepted, Kobari did not. He didn’t want Zayn to fall victim to Kishna’s schemes, and ended their relationship. But duty called, and Zayn had to deal with a Ghoul menacing a clan that had called for his aid. It was routine, or should have been. But the Necromancer who called for him failed to let him know all the details - such as the Ghoul being a member of his clan, or that she had a young daughter. As Zayn fought the Ghoul, he daughter interfered… and became infected with the strain Zayn had worked so hard to perfect. The Necromancer took the incident to the Council, demanding that something be done. Still shaken, Zayn could make no defense for himself. The Council was left with no other choice but to offer Zayn a decision - either he could resign his position as Salvager and effectively retire as a Necromancer, or he admits his judgement is not trustworthy, and he assumes the mantle of a War Dog, to wear a Muzzle to symbolize his submission to the Council’s will in all things. He took the Muzzle. |
