Biography
JUDAL - The Trickster
While Akuta hungers for the crunch of bones between her teeth, Judal hungers for the fear that fills a dragon's eyes before they die. The two make a morbid couple, all things considered, but the Scarred Wasteland is a harsh world unto itself, and it is best for those with hunger to ally, lest they compete and destroy one another instead. Such an event would be cataclysmic if it came to pass, and neither Judal nor Akuta is keen on endangering the one thing they've worked hard to maintain: their survival.
Of course, back in the day, perhaps Judal would have risked it anyway. He was a bold beast in his youth, unsatisfied with the lands where he grew up, and unwilling to bend his ways. Something compelled him to leave the Scarred Wasteland behind for a time, to set sail in the Tidelord's domain, and it was there that he discovered a joy for trickery.
It began in small matters, as these things do. Trinkets misplaced, dishes spoiled without warning, curious and inexplicable sounds in the night. All these things bred dismay, and with them, chaos. It gave Judal great pleasure to watch his hosts in the Sea of a Thousand Currents scramble to explain away the strange happens, to reassure him when in truth it was his fault that such things were occurring.
In that time, he also fell in love with a dragon named Hakuryuu, or what seemed like love at the time. After a string of fleeting attachments, Hakuryuu was a solid anchor, a counterpoint to Judal's wild nature, and he was a blessing. Together, the pair even moved back to the Scarred Wasteland, curbing Judal's impulses for a time.
But sometimes, hunger is stronger than love, if it was ever love to begin with. Shortly after joining the Order of the Colossus, Judal began to resent Hakuryuu for holding him back. He abandoned his mate with little warning, the decision already made, the hunger already growing. Hakuryuu was too protective, too sensible, too apologetic, and Judal lacked the patience to live that life any longer.
Now, out in the vicious lands surrounding the Order, Judal at last feels himself. He shares his hunger only with Akuta, since she too knows how it feels to crave more than you can stand, and while she hunts for dragons that have not earned the privilege of survival, Judal prepares to make their final moments all the more entertaining. How can he best startle them within an inch of their life? How can he torment them with all those precious moments that weak, sentimental dragons would miss? How can he devour their fear, take it into his core and turn it into power?
He does not yet have the precise answers, but every excursion with Akuta brings him closer. Their journeys will never sate him, though, that much is certain. Between the two of them, hunger runs too deep.
And that is the only way Judal wants to live.
